Located in Calgary and Leduc, with projects throughout Western Canada, we are a leader in the oil and gas industry for turn-key new construction, maintenance and prefabrication and modular construction services.The OpportunityThe Drafting Coordinator reports to the Director of QC and Drafting and is accountable for leading the drafting team, reviewing and interpreting designs and drawings, generating drawings, creating and maintaining bills of material, and fabrication control. A pipefitter background is beneficial for this position.RequirementsPOSITION-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIESSupervisor

  • Accountable for overseeing the drafting department operations, tasks delegation and team’s growth, and achieving the required outcomes.
  • Conduct weekly summary meetings with the drafting team
  • Forecasting additional drafting support
  • Meeting and/or working with third party drafting contractors
  • Drafting team growth and development
  • Delegation of work and audit of completed work
Drafting
  • Review and interpret designs and drawings prepared by others.
  • Generate drawings for design and construction of projects.
  • Resolve drawing and design problems with project managers and shop supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain project bills of material and identify material shorts.
  • Generate and update various spreadsheets for tracking, scheduling, and general use.
  • Support estimating and managers to bid on upcoming projects for project design details.
  • Provide technical expertise on design/drafting standards
  • Create drawing sets for construction
Fabrication Control
  • Maintain the Pipe Fabrication Drawing Log
  • Create, update, and perform daily audits of project Quality Control Progress Reports (QCPRs)
  • Review and process fabrication drawings in accordance with Alstar’s documented procedure
  • Spot-check drawings and material lists for errors and omissions
General
  • Advocacy for organization
  • Understanding Alstar’s strategic plan
  • Knowledge of the organization’s structure
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING,amp; EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • Drafting experience - Lead position: 5+ years
  • Design and drafting diploma or equivalent education and experience
  • Pipefitter training and experience is an asset
  • Understanding of fabrication process
  • Able to interpret isometric drawings, Piping and Instrumentation diagrams and Engineered Structural drawings
  • Experience using Acorn, Spool Fab, CAD Works, Auto Cad, Navis Models
  • Experience with Structural Steel detailing, Pressure Piping Drafting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel
