The opportunityOur Power and Storage team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Calgary to support our growth in the Hydrogen energy and utility scale renewable sectors. We are seeking a Land Analyst who has knowledge and experience in land administration practices to support the development of new business in new energy projects, with a particular focus on hydrogen fuel production and utility scale renewable power projects, for TC Energy.What you’ll do

  • Support acquisition of surface land rights;
  • Prepare and review acquisition documents and third-party requests/agreements to ensure compliance with legislation, regulation, and company policies and practices;
  • Prepare, issue, track and input documents;
  • Ensure all payments are made in keeping with contractual obligations;
  • Track landowner commitments and delegate as appropriate within prescribed systems;
  • Register documents and plans with land titles offices;
  • Investigate historical/unusual land right issues with intent to resolve;
  • Ensure a fulsome turnover of Projects to Operations through prescribed processes;
  • Process invoices;
  • Actively participating in process development and improvement regarding the role of Land in projects
  • Day to day administration of surface contracts, easements, and leases with a talent for solving complex land issues
  • Fulsome and accurate file review and interpretation of surface and easement files
  • Reviewing and auditing land acquisition packages received from land service providers
  • Reviewing and requesting third-party agreements
  • Identifying and resolving gaps in surface land rights
  • Requesting and ensuring all land right payments are paid in accordance to contractual obligations
  • Review and fully execute third party and land right agreements
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to Land Right team members
  • Provide the Manager with updates and elevate issues accordingly
  • Effectively respond to and resolve all landowner and other stakeholder queries in a timely manner
  • Ability to pull and interpret surface data and reports from a variety of sources (SPIN, ETS, AbaData, AccuMap, etc.)
  • Updating, tracking and maintaining surface records/information in the land system and the physical land files
  • Ensuring all land obligations, expiries, and commitments are met and tracked appropriately in the land system
  • Knowledge of how to registrar, transfer and discharge instruments and encumbrances on title in all provinces with operational assets
  • Supporting the Regional Land Representative team as required
  • Perform tasks with limited oversight and resolve issues using established guidelines, procedures and policies, within level of accountability
  • Provide guidance and oversight to the land service provider’s Land Administration team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in surface land administration
  • Petroleum Land Administration Certificate or post-secondary university education
  • Advanced skill level and knowledge of surface land acquisition (crown and freehold) and land registry practices in Alberta and Saskatchewan. British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec
  • Understanding of industry construction and operations practices
  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements as they relate to the administration of surface land rights
  • Able to navigate land systems with ease.
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive skills
  • Land broker experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years’ experience in land administration
  • Ability to set quality standards and protocols for third party brokers
