Job Description

Our Cloud Engineering Team is responsible for the design, configuration, maintenance and optimization of our cloud infrastructure and our release processes and pipelines. They deploy product updates, investigate production issues, ensure the security, stability, and performance of the platform, and implement integrations that meet our clients’ needs.As the Manager, Cloud Engineering, you will be responsible for the fast, accurate and secure execution and automation of operational processes. You will provide technical oversight and mentorship to the team members, as well as helping them to grow their skills and expertise. This role requires technical depth, exceptional project strategy and communication skills, and a passion for team culture.Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • DevOps Infrastructure Management: Architectural oversight and design, networking, security, compliance, new services, container architecture, infrastructure planning, cost management).
  • People Leadership: growth, development, driving engagement, respect, and high performance.
  • Process Management: Build processes to institutionalize the core Cloud Engineering practices at Symend.
  • Facilitate communication and ensure the adherence of the team to the core practices
  • Support team members in prioritizing and sequencing their work.
  • Work with the team to identify and implement processes which will improve team capabilities.
  • Communicate proactively with all involved to provide encouragement, identify problems, create solutions, and implement improvements.
  • Meet standards by following production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards; identify work process improvements; implement new technology.
  • Plan Cloud Engineering projects by confirming objectives and specifications with clients and internal teams.
Education:
  • BSc/BA in computer science, engineering or a related field
Experience:
  • Proven breadth of experience in DevOps infrastructure and leading the day-to-day management of a DevOps team including:
    • Deployment and Change management
    • Planning / working with engineeringamp; product teams to align expectations for deployments and manage resources to maximize success for each deployment
    • Risk management: including automated testing as part of release acceptance, verifying current and proposed load, complexity of solutions and automation.
    • Experience with automated testing tools
    • Understand flexible contracts for continuous deployment of contract and endpoint changes
    • Experience and ability to evolve infrastructure with minimal to no production interruptions
  • Previous experience partnering with Security to ensure activities tracked and documented for Security and compliance against ISO, SOC2 and GDPR certification requirements
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ArgoCD and GitHub Actions
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud computing technologies (experience using Azure and IaC tools such as Terraform)
  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift
  • Working experience with Blue/Green deployments, namespaces
  • Experience with vendor and solutions review and cost negotiations (e.g. SQL Server, Datadog, Snowflake)
  • Right-sizing and cost analysis to ensure efficient and cost-effective infrastructure scaling
  • Experience with production monitoring for large k8s and Azure infrastructure (Experience with OTEL and Datadog an asset)
  • Previous experience with Infrastructure road map planning, to provide low touch, high touch mitigation plan evaluationsamp; transitions
  • Experience with Agile practices including Scrum, Kanban. Experience with JIRA an asset.
  • Understand how to get from Code to Build/Test, working knowledge of non-trivial CICD pipelines (demonstrated with Github actions a plus)

Connects technical decisions to product performance and customer outcomes, and partners with Product and Engineering to ensure infrastructure supports product growth and differentiation.
