Job Description

Addictions CounsellorOne (1) temporary full time position – (one-year term)Calling Lake, ABThe Bigstone Health Commission in Calling Lake, Alberta is seeking an experienced Addictions Counsellor to join our talented Health Team. This is a rewarding opportunity if you have an appreciation for First Nation culture, a desire for continuing professional development and enjoy the support and collaboration from our multidisciplinary team and various other professionals and agencies.Must also be familiar with the development and educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of young people as well as the family systems and will be under the direct supervision of the Manager of Bigstone Community Wellness.Responsibilities:

  • The main duties of this position will be in the area of Prevention, Intervention, Pre-Treatment, Treatment, Relapse Prevention/Follow-up and Post Treatment Counseling.
  • Utilize existing resources for development of culturally relevant presentations to be utilized with students and adults.
  • Responsible for doing month end reports, calendars, monthly newsletter, and annual reports.
  • Provide information about Addictions & Mental Health issues and about available services and programs, and make appropriate referrals where necessary.
  • Review, evaluate and document client progress.
  • Provide after-care and follow up as appropriate.
  • Develop public education therapy groups as required and health promotion programs.
  • Work with organization, institutions and communities to develop implement and evaluate health and wellness program.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Addictions training, Social Work, or related Human Services Field
  • 2 year’s work related experience working with youth & adults, or training
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be prepared to work irregular hours depending on job demands
  • Must be reliable and consistent
  • The ability to work in a team environment with children, youth, family and other professionals
Additional Requirements:
  • CSIM & Police Security Clearances (Criminal Record Check)
  • Possess valid class 5, valid class 4 would be an asset
  • Willing to travel within Bigstone Cree Nation geographic areas, destinations
  • Applied Suicide Intervention, Mental Health First Aid, Standard First Aid courses
  • Minimum of 2 years’ sobriety
  • Ability to understand & speak the Cree language would be an asset
  • Willing to take training as required
  • MUST have an up to date; Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Youth Intervention Check, three (3) work related references attached to Resume.
