Job Description

arc programs is now accepting applications for a Behaviour and Family Support Counsellor to join our Castlegar office serving the West Kootenays.   Using an outreach, community-based, family-centered service delivery approach The Behaviour and Family Support Counsellor will provide various services to families and their children / youth aged 0-18, who are eligible for Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) services through the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD). The Counsellor will work with children and youth with an Autism Spectrum diagnosis; developmental disabilities; an FASD diagnosis; with complex developmental behavioural and/or medical conditions or other support needs. Hoursgt;  Full Time, Permanent  Based on a 40-hours per week.   Responsibilitiesgt; 

  • Providing in-home assessment, education, support, skill building and behaviour intervention and support.
  • Coordinating services with other community partners and stakeholders.
  • Increasing the capacity of families served to respond effectively to their child or youth’s individual needs, and to promote a strong parent-child relationship.
  • Developing an individualized support plan, which may include strategies to reduce problem behaviours using behaviour intervention techniques, build coping and parenting skills, increase parent capacity, and develop community and natural supports.
  • providing behaviour therapy and positive parenting and other parenting and child coping strategies with a behaviour and trauma informed approach and developmental lens.
Other responsibilities include: 
  • Building relationships and connections within the community to improve service integration. 
  • Complete Functional Behaviour Analysis as required.
  • Complete Positive Behaviour Support Plans as required.
  • Appling culturally safe and agile, trauma informed, relational and person / family- centered modalities. 
Qualificationsgt; A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (BSW / BA-Psychology / BA- CYC etc.) will be with experience directly related to working with Child and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) clients, such as:  
  • Behavioural Consultant or Intervention Services 
  • Child, youth, and family services program  
  • Child and Youth Mental Health program 
Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description, such as knowledge and experience serving the target population, knowledge of developmental behavioural conditions, parenting skills training/support experience.The successful applicants will be subject to a screening process, including a criminal record search, to confirm suitability for the position. Applicants must have a current Driver’s License. Please be aware that this position will require extensive travel over the Eastamp; West Kootenay service delivery area. A vehicle will be provided for travel. Wage / Benefitsgt;  $28.75 - $32.00 per hour based on relevant experience and education.Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20- hrs. per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP contributions).  New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, as well as paid sick days as described in agency policy.  Why choose ARC Programs as your employer ARC Programs is an equal-opportunity employer.
