Job Description

Automation SpecialistPurpose:Reporting directly into the Automation Manager (BC Based), and supporting multiple sites, the Automation Engineer supports Operations, Maintenance, the Process Engineering Team and Capital Projects Team in the areas of project management, development of budgets and execution of the manufacturing policy and plan, with a focus on health, safety, and the environment. Is responsible for the installation, upgrades and maintenance of machine controls systems, upgrades to our current plant machinesamp; process, line modifications, and additions. Provide localized support for hardware/software and site level troubleshooting, providing solutions, changes and programming for all systems related to production. Builds and maintain strong working relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.Reporting into the Canadian Automation Manager

  • Travel required to different sites across Canada.
  • Some on call required for plant emergencies.
  • Some nights or weekends when required for plant outages.
  • The ability to work inside and out, in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold is required.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Supporting process safety, H1amp; H2 Capital Projects
  • Close liaison with the site Plant Management Teams to ensure understanding of unique operating environments.
Responsibilities:
  • Support and promote a proactive HSE culture and develop leadership skills in HSE
  • Ensure all HSE systems and procedures are adhered, perform compliance audits as required, take corrective action on noncompliance, reinforce positive behaviors
  • Actively participate in HAZOPs and What ifs and review and comment on Management of Change proposals (MOC)
  • Provide technical support to assess abnormal process control operations and functions and develop guidelines to mitigate and manage appropriately.
  • Participate in integration planning for hardware and software with 3rd party control systems
  • Maintain process sensors maintenance; complete sensor verification, analyze issue and recommend solutions
  • Support the commissioning of electrical and process improvements at our operations with our PLC system (i.e., Allen Bradley Controllogix)
  • Participate in electrical and control drawings and design reviews
  • Enhance, correct, or improve performance of the HMI interfaces (i.e., Wonderware) as a critical part of the Drax Safety Program
  • Plan and participate in meetings with contractors, consultants, plant personnel, and management to deliver.
Automation projects on time and on budget
  • Post installation, teach plant personnel how to operate the control systems
  • Lead the creation of Machine Operation Manuals
  • Implement any necessary work around/fixes in the event of an upset condition
Control Software Programming Changes:
  • Participate in the vetting process of any process safety changes with the Automation manager and Plant Management.
  • Proactively researches and recommends Control Software Programming Changes to management team.
  • Recommends and completes maintenance and update of HMI [Human Machine Interface] software, including graphics changes.
  • Program and maintain the PLC [Programmable Logic Controller] software process changes
  • Train Plant Operators and Maintenance team on the operation of new software, updates, or enhancements.
  • Operations/Maintenance Computer Systems.
  • Support the maintenance of operations/production computer hardware and software
  • Provide network support for the automatic plant process controls.
  • Provide remote troubleshooting support for all plants.
  • Debug and set-up operationsamp; maintenance site computers.
  • Trial and support for productivity software to help colleagues operate more efficiently.
  • Ensure personal safe work practices are in place and always followed.
  • Adhere to company and legislative requirements of Drax #39;s Safety Program.
