Candidate Specification

  • Bachelor #39;s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems, or equivalent
  • P.Eng in Alberta, BC or Ontario or able to register
  • Demonstrable Team Leadership and Project Engineering/Management experience
  • Minimum 10 years #39; progressive experience in team leadership and people management
  • Minimum 15 years #39; progressive experience in the rail focussed work of which at least 5 years should be in Rail Systems
  • Good communication skills and English fluency
  • Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team.
  • Able to hold competent technical discussions with Client representatives
  • Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner
  • Broad experience of delivery within major infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of railway systems and / or operation within infrastructure projects / technology development and implementation projects

Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $154,000 - $163,000Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate #39;s actual salary within the expected range.Purpose of the JobDue to continued growth, Mott MacDonald #39;s Canadian Rail Systems team is looking to hire an adaptable and self-motivated individual to manage our Rail Systems groups in Vancouver, reporting to our national Rail Systems Team Lead and to provide project management expertise on Rail Systems projects.With our Rail Systems team #39;s increasing workload and growing portfolio of System Engineering and System Design work, there is a need to provide additional line management support and to provide better local focus for each team and management support for dedicated Rail System projects.Together with the national Rail Systems Lead, the Area Lead will manage the national team resource loading, team development and well-being.The Area Lead will be responsible for the wellbeing of the local team members, including managing the workload and working hours together with ensuring resource is available for all on-going and newly won projects.The Area Lead will manage the technical and commercial proposal response for Rail Systems bids and provide input to multi-discipline proposal responses. The Area Lead will also perform the role of PM for any Rail Systems, or predominantly Rail Systems projects.The RoleEnsuring MMCL #39;s Rail Systems is resourced to meet the workload, you will manage a multi-discipline team of engineering professionals and technical staff in the development, delivery and setting-to-work of Systems Engineering and Engineering of Systems work within MM #39;s North American rail and rail-related projects.You will manage the Rail Systems team in your area covering disciplines including Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Systems Assurance and Systems Design in the fields of Railway Operations, Train Control, Communications, Power, Control Systems and Rolling Stock.The successful applicant will help shape and manage the teams locally through development, growth, supervision and support. You and your partner Area Lead will be responsible for sharing and managing resource concerns, both under and over utilisation, and identifying additional resource needs.Within this role, you will also manage the proposal response for Rail Systems bids and provide input to multi-discipline proposal responses; you will also function as PM for any Rail Systems, or predominantly Rail Systems projects.You will work with clients, key delivery partners, contractors and service providers as well as maintaining relationships with members of the Rail Systems Practice across North America and other transportation related teams.The Rail Systems Team Area Lead is part of the management team of Rail Systems in CanadaResponsibilities
  • Develop and lead the Rail Systems team in either Vancouver or Calgary (West)
  • Managing the team resources, including:
  • Team growth, in coordination with the Canada national lead
  • Team workload and wellbeing
  • Team member development
  • Budgets
  • Working with the NASA Rail Systems Practice Lead, Canada Rail Systems Lead and other Area Lead, support the continued growth of the Canada Rail Systems Team
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction for System Engineering and Engineering of System activities in your Area.
  • Drive the development and on-going review/update of all engineering of systems processes and practices used within Mott MacDonald
  • Manage small to medium sized projects that are focused on Rail Systems activities.
  • Work with other PMs to resource their project as appropriate, working with the national lead and other Area lead as necessary
  • Manage multiple stakeholders
  • Attend meetings and make presentations at appropriate levels, up to and including project, MM Practice, Senior Client staff and MM NASA management meetings.
