Job Description

Located at the Site C Dam, Peace River Hydro Partners is the prime contractor on the BC Hydro Site C Clean Energy Project. We need you to help us build this legacy!Reporting to the Lab Manager and working in conjunction within Quality Team, you will receive work orders and samples to perform testing, with minimal supervision, on materials, including concrete, soil and aggregate materials, in accordance with contract requirements. The Laboratory Technician, being part of the Quality Team will assist to achieve project objective in ensuring compliance with the various accreditations, regulations and contractual obligations of the project.Responsibilities

  • Log sampled materials accurately and notify engineering and/or immediate supervisor of incomplete or inaccurate work orders and test sample size submitted to lab
  • Perform testing as per requested work order in accordance with contract standards and procedures
  • Provide continuous feedback to lab supervisor on results and any unusual conditions found during testing
  • Document and issue test reports in a clear and concise manner
  • Adhere to priorities, deadlines and multi-tasking needs, making sure results are available on time
  • Maintain lab tools and equipment in a clean and orderly manner
  • Maintain lab facility in routine housekeeping and working order
  • Perform routine lab works in a safely manner
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) testing standards/methods for concrete/soil/aggregate/testing
  • Knowledge of soil and aggregate compaction principles and testing
  • Familiar with soils properties including clays and silts
  • Knowledge of aggregate classification and testing procedures
  • Proficient at report writing, reviewing, and interpretation of results
  • Competency with MS Excel, MS Word
  • Ability to work either dayshift/nightshift, alone or with team
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or with team
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently problem-solve and tackle testing issues
  • Able to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy work place
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Able to handle heavy (35kg.) loads in laboratory and field environment
Experience and Qualifications
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • A valid driver’s license
  • The chosen candidate must possess technical experience in construction environment
  • Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) certified or the ability to obtain certification for aggregate, concrete, or soils is required
Please Note: This is a site-based position located at the Site C Dam in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Preference will be given to qualified, local candidates. However, we will also consider fly in/out candidates based out of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton. Rotational employees are required to work a 14/7 rotation; flights and camp accommodations are provided while on shift.Job Types: Full-time, Fly-In/Fly-OutSchedule:
