We envision a bright future in Coquitlam that we hope includes you!We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Property Use Inspector to join our Bylaw Enforcement team on a temporary contract. To succeed in this position you must have a keen sense of customer service and the ability to provide advice and support to our residents regarding best practices in the establishment and ongoing compliance of their business in the City of Coquitlam.Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the successful incumbent will draw on his or her proven abilities to make sound decisions, conduct risk analysis, and draw on his or her knowledge of the applicable laws and regulations governing land use, building and businesses. This work includes but is not limited to conducting inspections, investigations, identifying illegal uses/occupancies of commercial properties and the enforcement of a variety of bylaws at commercial properties. This incumbent will also review and approve business license applications and inspect for licensing compliance.Along with grade 12 and relevant technical courses, the Justice Institute of British Columbia’s Bylaw Enforcement courses (or equivalent) and Building Code Part 9 course are assets. You must have experience in customer service, conflict resolution, rules of evidence and some combination of inspection, investigation, bylaw enforcement and/or business licensing work. You must also possess considerable knowledge of building construction, relevant bylaws, and regulations such as Zoning, Building, Electrical, Health, Fire, Plumbing and Gas bylaws and related provincial statutes.A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is a requirement for this position.The City offers a competitive salary a CUPE hourly rate of $37.12 - $43.82 (2022 rates).The City has a vaccination policy in effect with requirements for all current and future employees.
