The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in Health
  • OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% Health within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references
  • University education in Mathematics
    • OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% Mathematics within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references
  • University education in Science
    • OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% Science within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references

  • Excellent communication (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving and program planning;
  • Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams;
  • Ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of culturally responsive pedagogy;
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan;
  • An interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development;
  • Ability to apply training and experience to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on the individual needs of students;
  • Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques;
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed;
  • Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm;
  • Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning opportunities related to students with behaviours of concern;
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
