AIS Watercraft Inspector - ENV002102Employment Type: Expression of Interest for SGEU Term less than 9 monthsLocation(s): SK-Central East-ChurchbridgeMinistry: 026 EnvironmentSalary Range: $22.323-$27.975 HourlyGrade: SGEU.05.The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment is seeking to hire one (1) term position within the Aquatic Invasive Species Watercraft Inspection Program. The main responsibilities of the AIS Watercraft Inspectors will be to:

  • Evaluate the risk of watercraft entering the province;
  • Inspect, quarantine and/or decontaminate watercraft known or suspected to be contaminated with aquatic invasive species;
  • Educate watercraft owners of the risks, methods of prevention, and rules associated with AIS and provincial regulations;
  • Promote awareness of AIS and prevention during public outreach events.
The AIS Watercraft Inspection Program is the main defense against invasive mussels being introduced into Saskatchewan waterbodies. Many invasive species have been identified in neighboring jurisdictions; therefore, watercraft inspection stations have been established in strategic locations around the provinces borders to screen boats entering Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will be stationed at Highway 16 at Langenburg, SK and will be responsible for protecting our lakes and rivers against harmful invasive species by conducting watercraft inspections and spreading awareness about AIS.A government truck will be available for the successful candidate, however living expenses and all accommodations are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be covered by the Ministry.Location: Langenburg/ChurchbridgeDuration: May 8th, 2022 to October 22nd, 2022Hours: 40 hours/weekEarly morning, evening and weekend work is a requirement.Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License
  • Ability to drive a truck and trailer

  • Ability to navigate difficult interactions with the public
  • Technical ability to problem-solve issues with trucks, trailers, and equipment
