Your Opportunity:This is an exciting opportunity to provide quality patient care at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, in a Long Term Care setting. The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The primary duties include: performing tasks related to activities of daily living, and ensuring comfort and safety of the patient. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.Additional Required Qualifications:Experience working with seniors and the cognitively impaired patients. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations necessary. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills within a team setting. Maintains a standard of high quality care, self-directed and motivated. Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients and families, ability to relate to clients in a caring manner with respect and dignity. Ability to work collaboratively with team members is essential. Physical ability to assist with lifting, turning, and transferring adult patients essential. Ability to handle the physical demands of the HCA position. Ability to utilize safe transferring and lifting equipment (It’s Your Move) is necessary. Medication course required when working day/night rotations. Please Note: This position is located outside of the Calgary city limits (136 km south of Calgary).Preferred Qualifications:Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) preferred.
