Job Description

Your Opportunity:The Recreation Therapy Assistant provides program and client support as a key member of the Recreation Therapy team at the Lander Treatment Centre in Claresholm, Alberta. The Lander Treatment Centre is a 48 bed short-term intensive, residential addiction treatment facility supporting adult men and women experiencing problems as a result of their alcohol use, other drug use, or gambling. As the Recreation Therapy Assistant you will play a key role in supporting clients to participate in recreation programming working in collaboration with and under the support of the Recreation Therapist. You will be responsible for social and leisure program planning and implementation, program organization, facilitating leisure education sessions, monitoring inventory, performing general equipment maintenance, supervising and actively participating in recreation activities with clients, in addition to other duties as operationally required. You will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills; time management and organizational skills; ability to resolve conflict; use a client centred approach; and promote a healthy lifestyle to our clients.Description:As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers level C (BCLS-HCP). First Aid. Experience as a Therapy Assistant in a healthcare setting within the last 5 years. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling, kneeling, crouching, and reaching while carrying loads of varying size and weights.Preferred Qualifications:Experience as a Recreation Therapy Assistant. Experience supporting clients with addiction and mental health concerns. Demonstrated participation and ability to lead individual or group recreation activities.
