Job Description

Clifford, ONDetailsJob TypeFull TimeClosing DateMay 6, 2022 4:00 pmDescriptionAs a Utility Construction Worker, you will be engaged in all facets of underground utility construction such as; installation, pulling and jetting of underground fibre optic and copper cables, vaults, terminals, aerial service wires and perform BSW cutovers. You will possess strong skill sets in equipment operations such as directional drills, backhoes and plows as well as several other smaller mechanical tools. The UCW will diligently follow health and safety measures on every job site to ensure the safest work environment. The UCW at times will be required to work alone, or with a crew and will be expected to work in a team effort to complete their assigned tasks in a timely and safe manner.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment not limited to but including cable plows, backhoe, directional drill, vac truck
  • Install duct, vaults, terminals, fibre optic/copper cables.
  • Digging holes and trenches
  • Assess job site for traffic protection and equipment setup. All traffic control shall be set up according to Book 7.
  • Perform daily maintenance of vehicles and machinery including visual inspections and checking fluids to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Expose and spot existing underground facilities and able to direct equipment operator to avoid damage.
  • Read and interpret blueprints as well as locate sheets.
  • Locate cables.
  • Perform BSW cutovers.
  • Care for company work vehicles. Ensure stocked materials and tools in the vehicle are well organized to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent driving skills in the safest manner.
  • Respond to after hour damages as required.
  • Adhere to Company and Health and Safety Policy and Procedures

  • Ability to effectively use various pieces of equipment such as GPS and cable locators.
  • Document all work completed.
  • Care for any company provided tools, equipment and property. Ensure stocked materials and tools in the work vehicles are well organized to ensure a safe and efficient work environment. Demonstrate excellent driving skills in the safest manner.Proactively demonstrate Ontario Health and Safety work safe practices to foster the safest work environment possible.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating equipment such as cable plows, backhoe, directional drill, vac truck would be considered an asset
  • Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Driver’s License G class (A-Z class preferred) with a clean abstract.
  • Solid understanding of Utility Construction.
  • Knowledge of fibre optic cabling.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • This position requires extensive physical demands such as carrying, kneeling, bending, and work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Specialized training consists of but is not limited to; Work Area Protection, Electrical Awareness, WHMIS, and Defensive Driving.
  • Additional demands include driving, working with small tools and objects, working autonomously and following tight schedules.
