About UsSpray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) - located in Cochrane AB - is a leading-edge sport and recreational facility encompassing 325,000 square feet, including an aquatic centre, four arenas and a curling centre, fitness & climbing facilities, an indoor turf, track, and gymnasium, and is home to several third-party tenants. SLSFSC is a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity, governed by a volunteer board of directors. With over 160 team members, we offer a dynamic and fast-paced work environment that promotes excellence in teamwork, community building, and an innovative customer-focus.About the PositionReporting to the Programs Manager, the Fitness & Wellness Supervisor is a key leader responsible for overseeing and managing SLSFSC’s Fitness Centre and all of the associated Fitness & Wellness programming that SLSFSC offers. The Fitness & Wellness Supervisor is responsible for budget development and management, managing staff, and driving the developing of innovative, quality, and competitive programs, with a goal of superior customer satisfaction, and increasing facility membership and revenues while operating as efficiently as possible. This position works collaboratively with other Programs Department leaders.This role is largely administrative in nature. The Supervisor may instruct 1x Fitness class per week (if desired) to build connectivity with customers and staff, and/or may be called upon to sub if required.Job Type: Full-Time Permanent (salary with benefits) – 40 hrs/week onsite – some evenings and weekends requiredSpecific responsibilities:Leadership Impact

  • Responsible for overseeing, evolving, and providing leadership on the effective and efficient operation of the Fitness Centre and all Fitness and Wellness programming, including but not limited to: Group Fitness, Aquatic Fitness, Personal Training, Team Training, and unique Fitness programming and special events.
  • Genuinely understand and reflect SLSFSC’s values, mission, and long-term strategic goals in all fitness experiences.
  • Responsible for the hiring, managing, and development of all relevant staff, including Coordinators, Fitness Centre Representatives, and Instructors/Trainers (employees and contractors):
    • Recruit, train, coach, and performance manage the team utilizing HR best practices and SLSFSC leadership norms to motivate and manage a passionate, high-performing team.
    • Empower and hold Fitness team members accountable for achieving established work-plans and targets through regular observation, follow-up, feedback, and coaching.
    • Overall accountability for the efficient use of labour budgets, accurate payroll, and contractor invoices.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating teamwork, collaboration, resilience, and innovation as a part of the SLSFSC Programs team and Experience department.
  • Participate and provide a driving voice in a collaborative re-imagining of the fitness experience at SLSFSC and a development process focused on improving service design and fiscal accountability, and then implement.
  • Accountable for following through with H&S and HR requirements as it related to staff and guest safety, and staff management.
Business Management
  • Accountable for the overall safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the Fitness Centre & Spaces, including all touchpoints of the customer journey: equipment maintenance, cleanliness, health and safety, inventory and ordering, space utilization, and the “look & feel” of all spaces to meet customer expectations.
  • Develop and drive short-and long-range priorities with analytical and business-based decision making based on SLSFSC strategic plans, with an outlook of at least 1 year in advance.
  • Create and own the annual Fitness budget (revenue, labour, and equipment), understand and monitor trends and key components that influence targets, efficiencies, and revenue generation.
  • Seek out and explore trends, practices, and competitive offerings. Directing the development of new programs and the maintenance of current programs, ensuring a balance of program offerings across the facility (and competitively) to meet the needs of our customers and member base.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of marketing timelines, pricing strategies, and ActiveNet software.
  • Work in conjunction with the rest of the Programs Department to coordinate programming to maximize the use of SLSFSC spaces and amenities.
  • Assess, revise, and revamp operational SOPs and training manuals for all Fitness teams.
  • Work effectively with Guest Services to ensure that they have the information they need to support and sell/communicate Fitness information to customers.
  • Track, monitor, and report usage and impact; weekly, monthly, and annually.
  • Present ideas, research, and recommendations to the leadership team through strong communication in the form of verbal presentations, business cases, and facilitation of meetings.
  • Responding to customer inquiries, complaints, or escalated issues as needed.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained as per equipment guidelines.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with community partners and local like-minded organizations.
  • Act as a sub for Fitness Classes, and work in the Fitness Centre as required.
  • Provide additional support to the Programs Manager as required.
Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary Diploma and/or University degree in Kinesiology or another degree that is applicable.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership position with accountability for budgeting in a Fitness environment.
  • Proven leadership, management, and planning skills, demonstrated through experience in the Fitness industry.
  • Nationally recognized Group Fitness certification (ACE, AFLCA, CanFitPro, etc).
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite and ActiveNet (or other CRM software) is required.
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing priorities, and have an optimistic and collaborative approach.
  • A commitment to role model and motivate others through positive and respectful communication.
  • Strong interpersonal, administrative, and customer service skills.
  • Professional, collaborative, and able to garner trust and respect from fellow staff, customers, and user groups.
  • Able to provide sufficiently clear vulnerable sector police check.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C/AED training certifications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to support Fitness teams.
