Want to be a part of this exciting timeOk, but what is a Geomatics TechnicianThis role is responsible for maintenance of the Corporate Enterprise GIS, performing spatial analysis and interpreting aerial photographs. This role’s focus revolves around providing excellent customer satisfaction, a high caliber of service and ensures data integrity.Did you know the needs for geospatial information increases each yearThis team is on top of it! We are looking for someone who is adaptable to new methods. Team members asking themselves “can we do it better” brings innovation and process improvements which create efficiencies and benefit residents.If you want to make a difference in our community and have education in Geographical Information Systems and 3-5 years’ experience of recent industry experience, we welcome your application for our Geomatics Technician.As the Geomatics Technician, you will be:

  • Creating and modifying the Corporate Enterprise GIS that supports all Geomatics Services activities including integrating data from external sources into Town databases, converting, importing and exporting of data in and out of the GIS, updating GIS attribute information as data is available, analyzing spatial data for a municipal environment, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Ensuring data integrity, user management and security within the Enterprise GIS database environment, including diagnosing and resolving issues to ensure optimal performance.
  • Establishing and/or maintaining regular updates to data used by Tax and Assessment, Civil Land Development, Planning, Water, Wastewater, Roads, Parks, and other sections to ensure data is current and accurate.
  • Providing technical expertise for GIS desktop applications and Global Navigation Satellite System data collection (GNSS equipment).
  • Creating rules and structure around database management; ensuring data meets corporate standards and customer needs, including writing concise and accurate technical documentation.
  • Creating and maintaining tabular and spatial views, as well as queries used for reporting within a SQL environment.
  • Assisting in training co-workers and provides technical assistance to other departments, consultants, and agencies on technical matters related to GIS applications and products.
  • Generates automated processes using scripting to assist with a variety of processes pertaining to data integrity, data updates, mapping, and others.
  • Captures all tasks within a Service Desk ticketing system designed to help prioritize deliverables and retain resolutions.

  • Proficiency in the suite of ArcGIS application technologies (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Server) and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Esri field collection applications: ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123
  • Understanding of fundamental GIS concepts and practices, database design and management
  • Proficient computer skills in Esri Software, Microsoft Office, internet use, e-mail use and database management
  • Demonstrates strong technical skills, attention to detail as well as organizational and time management skills
  • Understands how to think as an end-user and provide data in a clear and concise manner
  • Self-motivated to share work progress
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an open team environment
  • Knowledge of database performance tuning, backup, recovery, storage management, methodologies, processes, and tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to understand and report technical information
  • Canadian Institute of Geomatics or eligible for membership
  • URISA - The association for GIS Professionals or eligible for membership
