If you are comfortable juggling multiple priorities at the same time, committed to leading your team to consistently perform to a high standard, and thrive in a collaborative work environment then this opportunity to join the Alberta Parks team is for you!As the Regional Operations Support Manager, you and your team provide operational and program delivery support to a diverse set of operational programs focused on providing direct front line services to the public in provincial parks and recreation areas dispersed across a broad geographic area. Primary areas that you and your team will provide support in include:

  • Contract procurement
  • Contract management support
  • Facilities and Water / Waste Water System Maintenance
  • Fleet and staff accommodation management
  • Operational planning and issues management
In addition you will also manage the Region’s Infrastructure Management Program and Trails and Backcountry Campground Maintenance Program management.The Infrastructure Management Program ensures the long-term functionality, ongoing accessibility, and safe operation of infrastructure, facilities, and equipment, including regulated water and wastewater systems, in an effective and cost efficient manner and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Coordination of repairs in response to asset failures
  • Preventative maintenance planning and coordination
  • Provision of technical and regulatory compliance support for potable and wastewater systems
The Trails and Backcountry Campgrounds Maintenance Program is tasked to meet the demands of millions of day visitors and tens of thousands of overnight campers including:
  • Oversee the coordination of the maintenance of 1,600km of designated trails and over 17 backcountry campgrounds throughout the Region.
  • Actively advise on trails capital projects to ensure proper design and effective implementation.
  • Deliver the winter ski grooming program through Kananaskis Country excluding the Canmore Nordic Centre.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with various internal and external stakeholder groups including trail-based volunteer partner organizations and address issues in a timely and responsive manner.
Through your work as a member of the Alberta Parks team you will make a meaningful contribution to Albertans’ quality of life and ensure that parks remain healthy and accessible for future generations.QualificationsRequired qualifications (these must be met to be considered for the position):
  • Post-secondary education of 4 years in business administration, park/recreation facility administration/management or a related field supplemented by a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
  • Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
  • Criminal Record Check
Desirable qualifications:
  • Previous experience in the following areas:
  • Procurement and contract management (preferably in a public sector or large corporate setting).
  • Budget management and financial administration experience
  • Leading diverse technical and professional staff
  • Synthesizing information/data to provide briefings/make recommendations to executive leadership level
  • Project management
  • Previous experience in a Parks context
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal clients at various levels across the organization
