Requisition TitleUtility Aide - SEIU ServiceClose Date4 June 2021Contract TypePermanent - Full TimeLocationCollingwood, ON L9Y 4X1 CA (Primary)Job DescriptionThree Full-time positions (modified schedules available)POSITION SUMMARYThe Utility Aide reports directly to the Environmental Services Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with and ensuring that the requirements of the Ministry of Long Term Care and other legislation thataffect the operation of the department are met. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the Utility Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organisation’s mission and vision.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)1. Ensure assigned areas and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary condition.2. Ensure that established policies, procedures and work assignments are carried out and recorded as directed.3. Effectively utilizes all electronic systems provided.4. Assist in the pickup, delivery, receiving, checking and storing of incoming suppliesas required.5. Assist in the rotating of stock and monitoring of expiry dates.6. Keep immediate supervisor informed of potential shortages in supplies.7. Perform all general heavy housekeeping duties directed such as dusting, wall washing, vents, interior window cleaning, floor care including carpet cleaning, sweeping, damp mopping, scrubbing, waxing, buffing and stripping in assigned areas.8. Perform painting, snow removal, sanding and salting of walkways and general grounds maintenance and care as required.9. Perform or assist with resident moves and/or discharges including furniture and equipment movement as required.10. Collect and disposeof garbage as required.11. Replenishing of inventory supplies (chemicals, incontinent supplies, linens) to units and storage areas as required.12. Remove cubicle curtain drapes, pictures etc., as required for cleaning.13. Deep cleaning and disinfecting of requested areas or rooms as required.14. Assist other staff with resident room carbolizations and décor repairs.15. Assist in the implementation of quality management mechanisms as required. (i.e. home audits).16. Assist in performing safety checks.17. Attend in service, education sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, workshops, etc. as directed by immediate supervisor.18. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or actionwhich may constitute a risk to resident safety.19. Perform other duties as assigned.20. Comply with all relevant legislations/regulations, policies and procedures.21. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.22. Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation.CORPORATE COMPETENCIESHas knowledge of and demonstrated ability in our corporate competencies:

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
  • Completion of grade 11 or equivalent.
  • Ability to successfully complete a reading and comprehension assessment.
  • Proven knowledge in housekeeping and building maintenance and repair practices in a similar setting.
  • Flexible with willingness to learn new tasks, multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities.
  • Proven knowledge of floor care.
  • Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work withminimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service skills with a recognition that errors and omissions may result in serious consequences for residents and staff.
  • Basic word-processing and email skills are required.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing, as per PublicHealth requirements.
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of three (3) months experience in housekeeping and/or maintenance in a related environment.
EFFORT
  • Constant standing and walking during work periods, turning, stooping, bending and lifting.
  • Moving equipment and performing other related tasks.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Working with cleaningmaterials, exposed to dirt, dust, smells, etc.
  • This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
