Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is playing a significant role in Saskatchewan #39;s economic future. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeInstructors report directly to their respective Coordinator and are located across the province of Saskatchewan in various educational settings. The incumbent instructs SIIT students in the classroom, laboratory or shop environments and assists students during consultation hours. As an employee of SIIT, positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT #39;s vision, mission and mandate.General AccountabilityAs the educational leader in the classroom, instructors are responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula with the purpose of promoting student success. Instructors plan, organize and implement a course or program which creates a learning environment that guides and ensures each student is successful. Instructors keep current with developments in their subject area, instructional resources and methods, and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities to suit the individual needs of their students. Working collaboratively with a team of educational professionals, instructors demonstrate a strong commitment to create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment at SIIT. This position will require travel to various program locations or other approved work sites in accordance with the duties and responsibilities of the role. These include the following broad areas of accountability:Specific AccountabilitiesInstruction and Administration

  • Deliver various safety training courses across Saskatchewan, such as, but not limited to Fall Protection, First Aid and CPR, Ground Disturbance, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Aerial Lift, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry, and General Mine Safety
  • Maintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
  • Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures
  • Prepare and deliver course related materials. This may include: using prepared lessons plans and course-related materials; developing lesson plans and course-related materials.
  • Use appropriate methods of instruction, modeling, mentoring, coaching, etc. to facilitate student learning
  • Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time frames
  • Complete all course-related materials including: student assessment records, attendance records and course/program evaluations
  • Incorporate current technology advancements within all aspects of instruction and administration, where applicable
  • Maintain and secure program equipment, laboratory/shop facilities and materials to ensure a safe and organized work environment
  • Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures, where applicable
  • Seek professional development opportunities to keep current and relevant in applicable teaching areas, educational standards, industry trends, and best practices
Student Success
  • Respect, honour and acknowledge the uniqueness of each student including: their unique languages, cultures, traditions, histories and prior learning and life experiences
  • Guide and retain students with respect to academic progress and assist students to obtain appropriate support for academic and non-academic concerns
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment that provides the opportunity for meaningful learning and academic progress
  • Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, organize, supervise and/or monitor work practicum experience, where required
Relationship Managementamp; Leadership
  • Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain respectful relations through the use of problem solving and constructive resolution of student issues
  • Maintain classroom, shop and laboratory discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
Required Qualifications and Experience: Must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience delivering safety training courses, with certifications in relevant areas such as Fall Protection, First Aidamp; CPR, Ground Disturbance, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Aerial Lift, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry, General Mine Safety, and rigging, among others. Demonstration and strong understanding of safety regulations, standards, and best practices is required. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential, with a proven ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates must exhibit proficiency in creating and delivering effective training materials and assessments. Additionally, organizational and time management skills are crucial for managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience working with Indigenous learners and communities is an asset. We encourage candidates who possess strong qualifications but may not have all trainer certifications to still apply, as we are committed to providing training opportunities for successful candidates to obtain the necessary certifications for training delivery. This role will involve travel to communities across Saskatchewan for the delivery of courses, therefore incumbent must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver #39;s license as travel is required.As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT #39;s Alcohol and Substances policy.
