Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe MakerLodge Technology Assistant - Summer Student supports the department by maintaining the MakerLodge, operating equipment, and assisting the coordinators with MakerLodge activities. As an employee of SIIT, this position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT #39;s vision, mission and mandate.General Accountability The MakerLodge Technology Assistant - Summer Student will have the opportunity to gain excellent work experience while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their administrative skills and leadership capabilities. The MakerLodge contains a 3D print farm, sewing machines, digital film media equipment and other tools of design. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:Specific Accountabilities

  • Researching, developing, and prototyping innovative maker activities
  • Providing assistance in research, development, and implementation of marketing and other project initiatives
  • Assist with updates to social media, website, and materials
  • Provide professional administrative assistance to your direct supervisor and to employees in the department to support the accomplishment of business activities
  • Creation and maintenance of an inventory list of all tools, equipment, and materials
  • Skillfully operate all MakerLodge equipment
  • Assist with the development of surveys and questionnaires to support MakerLodge activities
  • Assist in maintaining the filing systems of the Strategic Initiatives unit
  • Carry out quality control of data entry as required
  • Receive, sort, and send mail, courier packages, and other equipment deliveries
  • Accountable for the upkeep of employee request forms, expense claims and daily papers
  • Maintain regular communication with other SIIT Administrative Staff to ensure consistency in communications, SIIT practices and procedures
  • Presentamp; facilitate MakerLodge activities as needed
  • Additional duties as required
There may be some summer student positions that must meet the following criteria:
  • First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive
  • Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Registered as full-time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
Position Requirements:
  • Prior experience working with 3D printers, sewing, electronics, and use of tools in a lab or educational setting is an asset.
  • Working hours may include some evenings and weekends.
  • The ideal candidate tinkers, makes, designs, and seeks to constantly stay updated on new technology innovations.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a cleared criminal record check with vulnerable sector check upon hire.
