Job Description

Job Title: Mental Wellness Clinician - Full time, permanent.Location of Position: Corner Brook, NLHours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per weekRate of Pay: $50, 000Job Description: The Mental Wellness Clinician is responsible for delivering outreach to Qalipu communities, as well as individual or group supports for members by providing a continuum of services such as: prevention, promotion, and educational activities; assessments and care planning for individuals and families; and consultation on cultural and clinical interventions.The Mental Wellness Clinician supports Qalipu First Nation with the development and delivery of mental health and wellness programs that utilizes cultural, spiritual, and conventional evidence-based frameworks to address the wholistic health of individuals, families, and the community. The incumbent supports and collaborates with individuals, the community, and partnering organizations with a combination of cultural supports and professional clinical information that improves the mental health and wellness of the community.The Mental Wellness Clinician supports and collaborates with provincial governments, courts, child and youth services, and organizations to advocate for the youth protection, welfare, and justice.Responsibilities:The Mental Wellness Clinician will work collaboratively with individuals, departmental staff, community organizations, and government branches pertaining to the mental health and social needs of community members. Additional responsibilities are as follows:

  • Coordinate and develop individual, family, and group counselling which utilizes both cultural and conventional evidence-based frameworks.
  • Establish therapeutic goals with individuals and groups.
  • Assesses participant needs for mental health supports and interventions in partnership with other community supports.
  • Liaise with the individuals and group participants external supports, as required.
  • Collect and maintain statistics and documentation for evaluation and reporting purposes.
  • Provide clinical consultation and collaboration, where applicable with other partner organizations; including but not limited to: assessments, referrals, follow-up and treatment planning for individuals, couples and families.
  • Participate in applicable committees and working groups.
  • Contribute to and support the development of practice standards, procedures, and tools that include both cultural and conventional evidence-based frameworks.
  • Participate in community education and community development activities as required.
  • Provide client advocacy and social justice for youth in protection and child welfare cases.
  • Ensure files are stored and maintained as per the Canadian Privacy Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the Qalipu Electronic Records Management System, and Quality Management Protocols for the Health and Wellness division team.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:Education: Post-secondary education in psychiatric nursing, social work, psychology, or an equivalent degree, along with current registration in good standing within the respective professional regulatory body/college which meets the Indigenous Service Canada standards for NIHB Mental Health Care Providers.Experience: The Mental Wellness Clinician will have 2+ years of experience with similar duties and responsibilities.Working Conditions: This position will have duties predominantly met during regular business hours. Some Travel and overnight stays may be required at times. Additional travel and flexibility of work schedule will be required.
