Job Description

Are you passionate about the environment Do you have a desire to make an impact on our planet in the work you do Scotia Recycling is seeking environmentally minded people to join us for the summer months in our Materials Recycling Facilities In Paradise and Mt. Pearl. Starting wage is $13.35/hour with a premium of an additional $1.65/hour to be banked and paid out upon the completion of your contract to assist with your return to studies in the fall. To recognize your successful contract completion Scotia Recycling will also match your premium bank based on the hours you work. Major Responsibilities:

  • Work in safe and efficient manner always
  • Must be able to move products and materials by hand or with material handling equipment in an efficient and careful manner
  • Must be aware of surroundings and be alert.
  • Visual inspections and responsible to report any deficiencies, damage with equipment including pre-shift reports on daily basis.
  • Report all incidents/accidents and illness immediately to a supervisor.
  • Must wear required PPE and adhere to all safety regulations and policies/procedures.
  • Must keep work area tidy and clean (no clutter), ensuring the area around their feet is clear and tools are put away.
  • Takes a positive approach to work assignments and treats co-workers, customers and management with tact and respect.
  • Must follow all company Policies and Regulations.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor that are safe and reasonable.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to bend, stand and walk for extended periods of time, some twisting, squatting, lifting and climbing.
  • Possesses hand eye coordination.
  • Ability to understand written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to learn repetitive duties quickly and carry them through independently.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold weather and able to complete light to medium work (periodically lifting up to 30 lbs).
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an industrial building, at times amid noise levels (under 85 dBA), moving mechanical parts, in conditions such as high humidity, odors, dust and exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Some work is outside, in all weather conditions.Personal Protective Equipment Required:
  • Steel-toe boots (CSA approved)
Personal Protective Equipment Provided:
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses (CSA approved)
  • Safety vest
  • Hearing protection required (at 85 dBA and above)
