More information can be found here.An excellent senior opportunity for a dedicated professionalThe Air Quality section develops and conducts provincial environmental impact assessments for air emissions, and reviews EIAs submitted by proponents. The section assesses the environmental suitability of existing and proposed atmospheric emissions and ensures impact assessment input is provided to Regional Operations. The Section Head develops regional positions on proposals for major development. The section advises and participates in airshed planning. The section also monitors, assesses, and reports on the ambient environmental health in priority airsheds and coordinates regional input into setting air quality policy and air quality objectives.Reporting to the Director, Monitoring, Assessment and Stewardship, Environmental Protection, the Section Head is responsible for the provincial environmental impact assessment program for air. As a team leader, the section head:

  • develops regional positions on proposals for major development projects, and coordinates participation in airshed management plans;
  • coordinates and advises staff on priority airsheds for monitoring, assessing, and reporting of environmental health on a provincial basis; and,
  • liaises with the Authorization Section Heads on behalf of the Air Quality Section and coordinates with other Ministry teams delivering air quality activities.
The Section Head is a Director’s delegate with authority to sign orders, permits, etc. when required.   • Master of Science degree in environmental sciences or natural resource management (focusing in areas such as atmospheric science, atmospheric chemistry or physics) or a related field (such as epidemiology) plus four years’ related experience; or,
  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental sciences or natural resource management (focusing in areas such as atmospheric science, atmospheric chemistry or physics) or a related field (such as epidemiology) plus seven years’ related experience; or,
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Related experience must include all of the following:
  • Managing and conducting air quality monitoring, impact assessments and report writing.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience supervising and/or directing others.
  • Experience providing interpretation/assessment of emissions and/or meteorology on ambient air quality.
  • Experience with computer technology and data management.
Preference may be given to those with one or more of the following:
  • Experience liaising with environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with field impact assessment data collection, analyses, and interpretation.
  • Experience with budget and project management.
  • Conducting air quality dispersion modelling.
