Our commitment to commercializing our unique patent-protected technologies, coupled with the expertise of our diverse team of exceptional research scientists specializing in biology, fermentation, extraction, product quality, and analytical chemistry, has been the driving force behind our expansion.The Position:The Chief Scientific Officer (“CSO”) role is an executive level position responsible for driving scientific innovation, research, and development strategies within the biotech organization. The CSO oversees the scientific vision, guiding the direction of researchamp; development initiatives aimed at advancing the understanding of biological systems, developing novel technologies, and improving existing methodologies, aligned with our mission and strategic objectives.The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization #39;s scientific agenda, fostering collaborations with external research entities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards governing research and development. Moreover, the CSO will lead multidisciplinary teams of scientists, researchers, and regulatory professionals, aiming to translate scientific discoveries into tangible products or solutions that improve human health and environmental outcomes.This role requires a blend of scientific expertise, strategic vision, leadership, and the ability to navigate the complex landscape of research and development.Job Responsibilities:Specific duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited, to the following:Guide the development and implementation of the scientific vision and strategy for the R amp;D department in alignment with the overall company vision, purposeamp; goals. Lead and ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements in all research activities. Follow guidance and lead execution of intellectual property strategy. Ensure team members are delivered coaching and mentorship, empowering them to set and achieve meaningful goals, while cultivating their professional growth, skill enhancement, and optimal performance. Exemplify and promote a culture of accountability by consistently taking ownership of departmental outcomes, fostering a sense of responsibility and trust within the team. Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements, industry trends, and emerging technologies to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of scientific innovation. Identify new research areas and opportunities for growth, evaluating the feasibility and potential impact of various projects. Overlook and guide the development of roadmap plans, designs, and execution of research programs, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Responsible for creation and execution of an intellectual property strategy. Additionally, supervise the administration of the intellectual property portfolio, encompassing patents, copyrights, and trade secrets. Collaborate with executive, sales, and research teams to define and prioritize product development roadmaps by integrating scientific insights and market demands, while offering expert guidance across the entire lifecycle, from conceptualization to commercialization, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. Promote the organization #39;s image and cultivate partnerships by participating in scientific and industry gatherings, while also fostering connections with external research institutions, academia, key opinion leaders, and regulatory entities to capitalize on their knowledge and collaborative potential, alongside staying updated on regulatory shifts and potential funding prospects. Contribute to the development of the company #39;s long-term strategic plans, providing scientific insights and recommendations.Required Skillsamp; Experience:A Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). At least 10 years’ scientific leadership experience in research, innovation, and technology development, ideally within a research-intensive organization, academia, or a relevant industry. Comprehensive understanding of the commercial aspects of biotechnology research, encompassing intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and commercialization strategies, while also demonstrating familiarity with market trends, competitive landscape, and industry dynamics. Ability to provide strategic direction and inspire a team of scientists, researchers, and engineers. This includes setting a vision, motivating others, fostering innovation, and promoting a culture of scientific excellence. Knowledge of financial principles and budget management to effectively allocate resources, optimize research budgets, and explore funding opportunities through grants, partnerships, or other sources. Business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to align scientific and IP initiatives withorganizational goals.Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and drive high performing cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at the executive level. Strong knowledge and expertise in the relevant scientific field(s) or industry. This includes stayingupdated with the latest advancements, research methodologies, and emerging technologies.In-depth knowledge of intellectual property laws, regulations, and best practices. Proven track record of developing and executing successful intellectual property strategies, including patent portfolio management and IP licensing. Strong understanding of product development processes and regulatory requirements. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to drive innovation, think creatively, and solve complex scientific problems. This involves identifying novel approaches, troubleshooting issues, and finding practical solutions to scientific challenges.
