Entry Level EngineerWeir Marine Engineering - NETEHalifax, NSOnsitePurpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering is currently looking for a Junior Systems Engineer/Engineer in Training to join our Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE) team located at our customer #39;s facilities in Halifax, supporting them with Independent Verification and Validation (IV amp;V) of Combat Systems Equipment, Documentation, Test and Evaluation activities for ships and submarines. This is a full-time and permanent position. The daily work environment will be combination of office (mostly) and shipboard or submarine environments alongside and occasionally at sea. There may be a requirement to travel (occasionally) to other test sites, ships and submarines in Canada.Since 1953, Weir has operated and managed the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE), a Department of National Defence (DND) facility located in Montreal with operations also in Ottawa/Gatineau, Halifax and Victoria. Over 375 personnel are currently employed by Weir at NETE, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy and DND with test and evaluation services in a wide variety of technical areas.Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills:Eligible to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which requires Canadian citizenship and 10 years of residence in Canada (MANDATORY). Please note all offers of employment are conditional upon obtaining a government of Canada security clearance to the level required by the function.   • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
  • Manage technical documents using SharePoint applications for various subsites for Ship and Submarine Class documentation
  • Review and update Combat System documents as required, including validation of the procedures aboard Ships and Submarines
  • Assist task leader in coordinating evaluation, test and trials events onboard multiple ships and submarines
  • Attend technical and management meetings and provide record of decisions and any reports as requested
  • Contribute to review, update and validation of maintenance and engineering policies and procedures
  • Respond to a Senior engineer with development, testing and analysis of material related issues associated with ships and submarines Combat Systems equipment
  • Perform testing and evaluation in accordance approved test plans and documents aboard ships and submarines, and at field and lab sites
  • Perform Verification and Validation (V amp;V) of Combat Systems specifications, implementations of Combat Systems equipment installations, set-to work, evaluations and test and trials
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that have the ability to perform the objectives above.
  • Understanding of the basic level of systems engineering concepts and applications applicable to the naval and marine environment
  • Ability to understand technical diagrams and drawings related to naval equipment
  • Translates concepts and information into drawing and diagrams; uses feedback to modify designs; applies design principles; and demonstrates attention to detail
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; and uses intuition and experience to complement data
  • Ability to work safely onboard ship in order to conduct inspections and validate test and trial documentations, including at sea and alongside docking work periods with other contractors
  • Ability to produce formal technical documents describing processes for naval equipment, including testing, trialing and maintenance of systems
  • Ability to produce clear and effective reports (month-end) to summarize task work and deliverables
  • Documentation Management Skills including the ability to manage a large amount of formal technical documents and engineering processes
  • Requirement to learn DND technical and engineering processes associated with system engineering requirements
  • Proficient with most software applications in Microsoft Office, notably Microsoft SharePoint and Office365 workflow integration for documentation management processes
  • Ability to explain technical details and processes both written and orally
  • Ability to work together and coordinate with team members working both locally and remotely
  • Ability to effectively communicate formally via email and telecommunications (phone and video conferencing including MS Teams) with task leaders and DND stakeholders, as required
  • Bachelor #39;s degree in Engineering from an accredited University, with eligibility to register as an EIT and work towards P. Eng. certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Electronics Design Automation tools for schematic capture, and PCB layout such as Altium Designer;
  • Control and Automation software such as LabVIEW;
  • General office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
