It’s our employee promise.Our hybrid work model provides the balance between working from home and enjoying meaningful in-person interactions.Read on to see how you can shape the future, win as a team, and grow with us.About The RoleWe’re looking for an Intermediate Underwriter to join our growing Contract Surety team!This hybrid role is based out of our office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.About The OpportunityYour work will be looked to for underwriting contract surety accounts by reviewing and interpreting financial statements to conduct financial and credit risk analysis in order to make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority.Review and interpret financial statements and the Act/Law associated with the bond type. The successful candidate will demonstrate financial acumen and excellent rapport building skills by building and maintaining positive relationships with various clients: insurance brokers, lawyers, chartered accountants and government officials.What You’ll Do HereManage a diverse portfolio of contract surety accountsAnalyze and secure underwriting data, perform financial analysis and apply critical thinking on underwriting decisions and client relationship issuesAssess risk and appropriately recommend approval of new and renewing contract surety facilitiesBuild partnerships with brokers and clients, delivering surety solutions at the account level in a professional and responsive mannerDevelop broker relationships and marketing strategies to further new business development opportunitiesPrioritize workflow to maximize productivity and meet deadlinesAssist in the preparation and submission of special acceptances to reinsurersMaintain quality control and profitable growthMaintain a strong knowledge of construction industry trends, market conditions, and current challenges and opportunitiesActively participate in industry functions, forums and eventsTravel will be requiredWhat You Bring To The TableBachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the roleSurety or related business experience, and/or experience in a commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage capacityConstruction estimating experience is considered an assetSolid understanding of financial statementsStrong analytical and research skillsA history of providing excellent customer service and sound judgmentStrong interpersonal and communication skillsExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environmentAbility to work independently and collaborate with co-workers in a team settingProficiency with MS Office Suite of productsWhat We OfferWorking here means you #39;ll be empowered to be and do your best every day.
