Thales Canada is looking for Marine Surveyors to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy on Canada’s East Coast.The Thales Marine Surveyor – East Coast (MS-E) will work with the Thales LCMMamp; Engineering and Service Delivery Teams to provide project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy’s Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes but not limited to the planning and execution of ship surveys and preparation of survey reports, repair specifications and other technical support activities to manage ship certification and configuration.Key Areas of Responsibility The MS-E will report to the Engineering Services Manager and support with the planning and execution of ship surveys and other certification and configuration management activities. This includes but not limited to the following:Support the Thales Certification Officer and other engineering personnel with the planning and execution of Classification surveys and other certification activities.Plan and execute pre-docking surveys, Annual Condition Surveys and prepare Annual Condition Survey Reports, in coordination with the DND and Classification Society requirements.Support the preparation of docking specifications, docking work packages, technical proposals and scopes of work.Applying lessons learned from previous surveys and dockings to support configuration baseline changes and process improvements.Developing repair plans and guidelines for hull and equipment repair specifications.Additional tasks to support the Thales LCMMamp; Engineering team may include but is not limited to:Reviewing Engineering, Certification Management and other Processes and identify areas of improvement.Prepare documented work scopes suitable for solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEM’s, manufacturers, suppliers, repair and testing facilities, or specialist service providers.Preparing and reviewing technical documentation and supporting baseline documentation updates.Providing technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.Minimum RequirementsThe candidate must meet each of the following criteria:Minimum education requirements:3-year technical program diploma (for Technologists) or 2-year technical program diploma (for Technicians) in a marine technical field offered by a recognized technical institute; orCertified a technologist or technician by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a relevant field or certified body; orCertified as one of the following technical trades of the Canadian Armed Forces:Marine Technician RQ-PO1 or RQ-PO2QL 6A or 6B Marine ElectricianQL 6A or 6B Naval Electronics TechnicianQL6A or QL7 Marine EngineerQL 6A or 6B Hull TechnicianPossess a minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last 15 years.Previous experience as a Marine Surveyor with a Classification Society or within the Royal Canadian Navy.Minimum of five years #39; experience in surveying or maintenance of vessels to commercial or military standards.Demonstrated experience with the planning, management and execution of ship dockings and dry dock refits.Demonstrated understanding and experience with: Classification Society rules and regulations (Lloyd’s Register, ABS, DNV) for the Classification of Ships, Naval Ship Classification Rules and Commercial Ship Rules.International Association of Classification Societies (IACS)International Maritime Organization (IMO)International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications5+ years #39; experience in project management of ship repair, and engineering change projects.Experience with design, testing and certification of shipboard lifting appliances including marine cranes.Familiar with conducting weight and stability calculations, lightship surveys, inclining tests, and lightship surveys.Familiar with International Code for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (the Polar Code) and ANEP 77 (Naval Ship Code).Previous working experience with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets.Language: English (essential) with French desirable as a first or second language.Physical DemandsCombination of office work and working at dockyards and on-board Naval ships.Required to undertake inspections in machinery and confined spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.Regulatory Compliance Requirements: Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR.Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level.#LI-Hybrid#LI-TI1Thales is an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
