Job Description

The Ultra Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.:The Mechanical Engineering Co-op will play a role in a multi-disciplinary project team developing new and innovative solutions for the Royal Canadian Navy and its partners in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) domain.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the project mechanical lead to develop mechanical designs, ensuring structural integrity and compliance against requirements in all operating environments through analysis and testing
  • Create CAD models, assemblies and their associated drawings to applicable standards
  • Create documentation required to satisfy the project plan
  • Develop and perform design verification tests involving the measurement of key performance parameters to satisfy product qualification
  • Work with the project team to successfully deliver solutions that meet the Customer #39;s needs, requirements to cost and schedule
  • Work with the manufacturing and production departments to transition designs to production
Required Credentials:
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and attentive to details
  • Strong communication skills; positive attitude
  • Ability to work on Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR controlled articles
  • Candidate must be capable of acquiring a NATO Reliability and Secret security clearance
Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Experience designing components using various fabrication methods (i.e. machining, injection molding, welding, forming…)
  • Familiar with product design for the marine and defence sectors
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Experience presenting designs within a team
  • Experience performing structural analysis and failure analysis
  • Development and/or improvement of manufacturing processes and technologies
  • Experience transitioning a product from design into production
  • Experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tool
  • Able to work with and understand the perspectives of other engineering disciplines
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to define and document complicated problems and relationships, collect and document data, and establish facts by direct conclusions or deductive reasoning
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-oriented environment
