Job Description

Term of Appt: Regular, Full Time (Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week)Location: Dawson Creek, BCStart date: ImmediatelyReporting to: Director of Indigenous EducationSalary:Classification 14, $55,702.59 - $57,425.35 annually, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Vacation is prorated and front loaded (based on FTE, approx. 119 hours/year). We offer competitive extended health and dental benefits after the completion of 6 months of employment. Support Collective Agreement includes time off for family and/or personal illness, medical appointments, and other special leaves. Closure during the Christmas Break (Dec 25 - Jan 1) is paid time off. Enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan is a requirement of the staff in full time positions.Description:Under the direction of the Director of Indigenous Education, the Indigenous Project Facilitator will coordinate various educational projects with local Indigenous community partners.In collaboration with the Director and with guidance from the Council for Innovation in Indigenous Education (CIIE), the facilitator will take projects from conception to completion. These projects will include joint activities and events with local First Nations and Metis community partners, developing and delivering educational opportunities for Indigenous students, and special projects related to Truth and Reconciliation, Decolonization, and Indigenization at Northern Lights College.The Indigenous Project Facilitator will forge strong relationships with local Indigenous communities, regional organizations, and local businesses. In collaboration with the CIIE, they will support increased participation of local Indigenous communities in planning and decision-making at NLC, as they continue to seek their own self-determination in post-secondary education.Expected working hours will be between 8:30am - 4:30pm in order to connect with project partners. There will be a need to be flexible as the hours may vary, depending on if we have events occurring in the evenings or occasional weekends. This position will support both the Fort St John and Dawson Creek campuses and travel within the region will be expected on a weekly basis.Qualifications: In order to be considered for this position, you will have successfully completed grade 12. Two years of relevant post-secondary education with an additional 3 - 5 years of relevant experience working with Indigenous students, communities, and Elders is required however a combination of education and experience may be considered. You will be required to have demonstrated experience and cultural training to lead and support traditional and contemporary Indigenous art and activities. These will include teaching and a guiding knowledge of Indigenous art, song, dance, and storytelling. Experience with grant writing and project management is also required.The successful candidate will have excellent and respectful communication and interpersonal skills with an intercultural understanding of non-verbal communication to manage and respond strategically for event planning and management. You must be able to understand and appreciate cultural diversity among the Indigenous People in Canada, and the college service area, with the service excellence approach with Elders, students and staff that includes the ability to share and provide Indigenous perspective and relevant approach.As with all of our positions at Northern Lights College, you must be able to maintain a high standard of work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to contribute collaboratively to the team.
