Job Description

Aboriginal Head Start [AHS] is an early learning program providing a range of early childhood development experiences for Indigenous children ages 3-5 addressing Culture and language, Health, Education and Nutrition. The program also offers activities to support and endorse parents and guardians as children’s primary teachers through Parent and Family Involvement and community resource connections.We are interested in establishing an Outreach Program in Denare Beach, starting in September of 2022, and will be seeking applicants for a Preschool Worker.The Preschool Worker will work in conjunction with the Early Childhood Educator to assist with the delivery of program activities.Duties consist of:

  • Organizing space, equipment and materials for program activities
  • Assisting with participant transportation as required.
  • Provide guidance and assist participants with activities.
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and hygiene habits.
  • Prepare snacks.
  • Maintain an environment that protest the health, security and well-being of program participants.
  • Maintain equipment and assist in housekeeping duties.
  • Observe Children and report on observations to supervisor.
  • Adhere to Child Care Regulations, Guidelines and Child & Family Services Acts.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as directed.
  • Attend meetings as directed.
  • Duties relevant to the position as assigned from time to time.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Childcare experience.
  • Organization skills
  • Excellent communications skills and experiences
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, values and customs.
  • Ability to speak Cree language will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Child Care regulations and guidelines
  • Knowledge Child & Family Services Act
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain Class IV Drivers License, if needed
  • Ability to work within a flexible environment.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Excellent health
  • Employment is subject to a Criminal Information Record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must sign an Oath of Confidentiality and maintain confidentiality at all times
Job Type: Part-timePart-time hours: 28 per weekSalary: $14.00-$17.00 per hourSchedule:
  • Monday to Friday
