They support patient care by practicing within the Advanced Care Paramedic scope of practice and demonstrated competencies in provision of care.The Advanced Care Paramedic accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through on-going professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The Advanced Care Paramedics practice and conduct is defined by the professional registration body (EHSNS), and they are responsible for ensuring that their registration is current and valid.The Emergency Department Paramedic is responsible for a wide range of duties within the ED and the key to this position is flexibility. This role will include many of the core competency tasks of an ACP, however, be prepared to take on new roles with appropriate training and within scope of practice. Examples of scope of practice roles include, but are not limited to: medication administration, IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial blood gases, application and removal of casts, splinting, procedural sedation, patient assessment, trauma team member, intubations - airway management and teaching.Qualifications
