Ecumenical Shared Ministry PositionPosition Summary: This is a full-time position with time shared with and equally supported by the two denominations. It is expected that there will be overlap and cooperation between the two denominations. The minister will provide leadership within each congregation and the community as we move into this new relationship.The minister will work with the Official Board of the United Church and the Parish Council of the Anglican Church to carry out the duties specified below in each congregation. It is expected that some activities may be joint between congregations.Rivers of Grace Pastoral Charge and the Anglican Parish of Digby is located in Southwest Nova Scotia, where the Atlantic Ocean crashes over the Bay of Fundy, named as one of the seven natural wonders of North America, for having the highest tides in the world. Tidal Power is becoming a reality with test turbines in several locations. The rolling hills of the Annapolis Valley share Canada’s oldest historic memories. The area has a rich cultural tapestry, where the Mi’kmaq people have made their home for over 10 000 years, welcoming French and English explorers 400 years ago. The tapestry also includes Acadian, African Canadian and Loyalist heritage. We are a rural community, located 2 ½ hours from the city of Halifax and its International Airport.The congregations come from the town of Digby and a 20 minute drive in each direction takes you to the home communities of Clementsport, Bear River, Weymouth, Digby Neck and Islands congregation members.There are numerous Provincial Parks, campgrounds, beaches to explore and enjoy. Our coastline provides you with the opportunity for swimming, rock and shell collecting and just plain relaxing as you explore the beauty of God’s handiwork. The many lakes and rivers and Kejimkujik National Park (one hour away) offers backpacking, biking and hiking trails, canoeing and kayaking. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are very popular activities in the easily accessed “back-country”. The Digby Area Recreation Commission offers free use of snowshoes and provides a wide variety of programs for all ages to promote healthy lifestyles. There are also hiking groups (Fundy Erratics) and Trails Associations that can help you connect with other people that enjoy the outdoors year round.
