Job Description

Job Title: DentistLocation: DorchesterRemote: NoBusiness Unit: HealthDepartment: Health ServicesJob Type: Part-TimePosition OverviewA Dentist is needed to provide weekly dental services at a local detention facility. Extractions, root canals and fillings will be regular services, as well as providing pain management relief and responding to dental injuries from trauma and long standing complex chronic dental health concerns. Health education and teaching will also be an important part of this role.Responsibilities• To provide primary dental care, including x-rays and health promotions to inmates. • The dentist is required to manage all aspects of dental care services including coordination of care provided by dental specialists to inmates to ensure continuity and integration of care• To be able to document all dental care in the dental records folder in compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards of practice. This includes dental assessments, treatment and consultations.• The Dentist will provide the following dental services:• Provide urgent dental services for patients;• Diagnose and treat acute dental conditions and/or injuries;• Ensure pain secondary to dental problems is assessed and managed appropriately;• Treat and prevent patient’s infection due to dental problems;• Address any dental problem which makes it impracticable for a patient to masticate.Qualifications• Holds a certificate of registration issued by New Brunswick Dental Society• Minimum of three years experience providing dental services• Valid CPR and First Aid • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience;• Ability to obtain a PSPC Reliabilty Clearance• Experience working with people with addictions;• Experience working with people experiencing mental health issues;• Experience with urgent / acute dental care; and• Experience in providing dental care for marginalized and diverse populations,including those who have experienced trauma.
