  • conduct and monitor fish culture activities
  • plan and implement fish culture projects
  • operate and maintain highly technical equipment
  • meet stations production and stocking targets/goals and objectives
  • provide leadership and technical direction
How do I qualifyMandatory requirement:
  • You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
  • You have the ability to obtain a class D licence with a Z endorsement.
Interpersonal and communication skills:
  • You have the proven ability to maintain positive working relationships with station team, other program areas and project partners.
  • You can exercise tact and professionalism while interfacing with the public and serving as the representative for the fish culture station at meetings or on committees.
  • You have the proven ability to resolve operational problems by applying effective teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
Fish culture expertise:
  • You have practical experience with fish culture, hatchery and husbandry techniques and activities such as: egg collections and incubation, egg transfers, yearling production, inventories, fish distribution and brood stock management.
  • You have an understanding of the Ontario Fish Culture Program and the role of fish culture in the overall fisheries management program supporting the provinces delivery of integrated resource management priorities, such as rehabilitating native fish populations and enhancing natural reproduction.
  • You have knowledge of fish stocking operations such as organizing paperwork, handling, netting, loading, transporting and releasing fish.
  • You have general knowledge of aquaculture and fish culture technologies, including automatic feeding systems, feed management, water quality, photo period and waste management.
Technical and other skills:
  • You have the demonstrated ability to operate and perform maintenance on highly technical equipment such as water quality monitoring instruments and water process and control system equipment.
  • You ensure that your workplace conduct complies with worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated safety regulations.
Analytical skills:
  • You have a good track record of successfully planning and implementing projects to meet assigned targets.
  • You are able to troubleshoot equipment failure and provide solutions for repairing.
