Job Description

The Manager, Health Counselling Programs plays a critical role in overseeing that these programs are in place as well as providing guidance and support to our employees with the key goals of increasing engagement, accessibility and productivity, leading to a healthier workforce. The Manager, Health Counselling Programs is responsible for a variety of programs designed to improve health and wellness in corporate and community environments.

  • Develop the internal group trauma counselling program in support of the mental health quadrant.
  • Provide group counselling though various branches, with the focus of front-line employees and management.
  • Assess the psychological mental health of front-line employees and management and implement strategic initiatives to better support the workforce.
  • Work closely with front-line employees to develop mental health training modules and in-person/virtual seminars specific to their needs.
  • Monitor and respond to employee feedback on all internal communication platforms (e.g. Yammer).
  • Help drive the Employee Customer Experience roadmap on wellness, including mental health and creating new initiatives.
  • Proactively maintain an awareness of developing strategic initiatives to ensure the psychological safety of the workforce.
  • Foster an effective business relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible to develop and grow the substance abuse program by working with union representatives, disability management, labour relations and occupational health services.
  • Facilitate and deliver mental health trainings to employees across all levels.
  • Lead and manage mental health initiatives from current state, conception and design to implementation and post-audit.
  • Build business cases, working closely with reporting manager and key stakeholders, supporting internal funding requirements.
  • Work with branches in providing Mental health leadership training in the workplace. Evaluate and create new programs as needed to establish improved mental health awareness for employees and managers.
  • Maintain oversight and control of all drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment costs and spending.
  • Responsible for overseeing all mental health activities, training and is lead manager in ensuring Air Canada is achieving its goal of a psychologically healthy workplace as defined by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards.
  • Responsible for psychologically healthy workplace awareness training as identified by branches for managers.
  • Work with branches to promote mental health awareness for employees through initial training and recurrent training.
  • Ensure ongoing/annual intervention programs; provide links to community agency programming and public health initiatives appropriate for the employee population.
  • Participates in research and quality improvement activities by identifying client care issues, collecting data, and identifying needs and recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures or protocols.
  • Provide quarterly and annual reporting statistics on prevention, treatment, absence, benefits and disability claims to the CMO and VP GHR.
  • Provide insight and analysis of reported data and provide recommendations on direction and programs to facilitate improvements in overall wellness metrics as defined by the CMO and Sr VP PCC.
Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) required
  • Linguistic requirements (Proficiency level 1-4)
  • Level 4- English , Level 3 - French
  • Preferred related HR experience including experience in trauma group counselling and strong assessment in substance abuse.
  • Member of the "Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec
  • Minimum two years of post-masters counselling experience.
  • Commitment to the vision and goals of the department and organization
  • Suicide prevention and crisis intervention training is an asset.
  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an asset
  • Self-starter - Able to work independently and provide detailed and accurate reports.
  • Maintain knowledge, skills and abilities by keeping up to date regarding professional standards through reviewing current literature, attending workshops / seminars and networking with experts in the industry.
  • Project management and leadership experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Ability to adequately apply relevant legislation i.e. Human Rights Code, Regulated Health Professions Act, Privacy Legislation, and the Mental Health Act.
  • A demonstrated ability to influence, persuade and convince others and develop, engage, and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as facilitation and training skills as well as on camera presence to create content for Air Canadas internal social media.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally
