The International Affairs and Facilitation Department is looking for candidates to join our team as:Manager, International AffairsAs a member of the International Affairs and Facilitation team, and with the leadership of the Director, International Affairs, the Manager, International Affairs will play a key role in Air Canadas relationship management and engagement with Government officials and advocacy on issues related to Air Canadas international network in support of Air Canadas commercial objectives and operational priorities globally.Responsibilities
  • Ensure Air Canadas position regarding bilateral and multilateral air negotiations are clearly communicated and represent Air Canadas position at intergovernmental negotiations
  • Act as the owner to develop and prepare Air Canada submissions to Transport Canada on air policy issues (e.g. carrier selection processes, policy reviews) based on managers guidance and strategy approach.
  • Substantiate Air Canada s positioning with Canadian and foreign government officials.
  • Communicate results of intergovernmental negotiations to various user groups/branches within Air Canada.
  • Provide advice and interpretation to other Branches on route rights and provisions in Bilateral Air Treaties and Canadian International Air Policy
  • Develop and articulate Air Canadas position with respect to international air policy issues.
  • Consult internally to develop and prepare Air Canadas position regarding Government consultations regarding international air services.
  • Support Legal Dept and local counsel with permit/ authorization issues for route startups and/or permit renewals. ie. Operating/selling permits, rouge approvals, aircraft type approvals/updates).
  • Proactively research, understand and highlight any regulatory changes in foreign jurisdictions that could become a "doing business" issue for Air Canada.
  • Investigate and seek solutions to "doing business" problems faced by Air Canada in foreign countries: e.g. taxation, repatriation of funds, ground handling.
  • Research and interpret applicable application and filing requirements in response to Passenger and/or Cargo country specific commercial requests
  • Lead the end-to-end process for CTA and foreign CAA authorizations of new route start-ups, restarts and codeshare services
  • Obtain seasonal authorizations for Air Canadas Passenger and Cargo flight schedules including codeshare schedules with civil aviation authorities across our network
  • Lead the resolution of any authorization roadblocks related to operating permits and/or aircraft authorizations
  • Provide guidance to the Alliance Department on regulatory requirements and processes required for codeshare implementation, applications and renewals of authorizations and required follow-ups
  • Document and keep updated the required approval process and responsible authority contacts
Qualifications
  • University degree or College Diploma required
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial experience within the airline industry
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken, in French and English
  • Strong interpersonal skills and solid team player
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Available to travel
