Job Description

Job DescriptionThis front-line manager position is designed to promote FedEx Grounds safety first culture and manage the day-to-day operations of a station or sorting centre and lead a dedicated team. One of the responsibilities of the position is to ensure that packages are sorted efficiently and safely by managing parcel handlers. The Operations Manager can also manage employees and administrative functions, and ensure that administrative processes comply with FXGs policies and procedures and government regulations.Essential functions

  • Performs but is not limited to: hiring, separation, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, and managing staff performance and productivity.
  • Plan, organize, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the sorting center
  • Manage and assign employees to ensure efficient sorting of packages in the facility, minimize operating costs and maximize operational quality, including (in conjunction with the long-distance transportation service) trailer movement, tracking and administration.
  • Analyzes operational performance through direct observation, interpretation of reports and collaboration.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve key metrics and executes action plans to achieve results. Ensure the education of sorting centre staff, including management employees, and compliance with all FXG policies and procedures and applicable government regulations.
  • Leads daily employee or scheduling meetings to ensure communication with employees and understanding of operational updates and daily objectives.
  • Participates in and assumes responsibility for the development of the companys employee relations strategies, including maintaining the confidentiality of these documents and related matters.
  • Investigates, resolves or escalates client service issues as required.
  • Train new employees on duties and performance expectations, and ensure compliance with FXG policies and procedures and other training requirements, including quality assurance, SWAK, hazardous materials and dock safety training.
Minimum Level of Educational Attainment
  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required; Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Logistics or a related field preferred.
Minimum experience
  • Six months of experience as a parcel attendant at FedEx Ground OU;
  • Six months of experience in a fast-paced environment, such as in a retail business, hotel, fulfillment center or warehouse OR;
  • Experience in the Armed Forces with honorable release OR;
  • Experience in supervision OR; * Accreditation program or associate degree in a related field or more than two years of study towards a bachelors degree (in lieu of experience);
  • Bachelors degree, an asset.

  • Computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office software and web applications
  • Ability to maintain working knowledge of relevant technology projects, including different computer devices and applications.
  • Ability to mentor and assist other employees and act as a resource person.
