Job Description

Choices is a recognized leader in providing supports and services for people with developmental disabilities. We ensure that the people we support have opportunities to live and participate in their communities by enhancing quality of life, promoting social inclusion and self worth.Position: Building Maintenance Worker - Summer Student (on-site)Contract Length: 8 weeks.Pay: $18.50/hourWorking hours: Monday – Friday, 9am -4pmResponsibilities

  • Ensure prompt follow up on all request for repairs.
  • Complete tracking summaries as required.
  • Perform carpentry, electrical, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance and repairs such as repairing furniture, installing switches, replacing plugs and other basic appliance repairs, applying paint and other finishes, repairing drywall, disassembling and reassembling equipment, replacing sinks and toilets and applying finishing material and other duties as needed.
  • Keep detailed records of all work performed.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is available, functional and meets current requirements.
  • All other duties as required.
Requirements and Eligibility Criteria**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student #39;s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
  • Educational Background or experience in building maintenance or related field
  • Have the ability to work in a team or in an independent environment.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and physically able to perform heavy lifting
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment.
  • Meet all requirements set out under the Canada Summer Jobs Program
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the vulnerable population.
  • Valid Driver #39;s license and access to vehicle
  • Must provide a complete and current (within three months) Vulnerable Sector or be willing to obtain one.
Bona Fide Requirements:
  • The ability to engage in all aspects of Safe Management and valid First Aid/CPR Certified.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccinations through approved QR Code
