Grow your career aspirations with us!As a TRA Accounting Officer, you will work in our Strategic and Client Services Accounts branch within TRA. In this role, you will report to, and be supported by the Group Lead. The Accounts team supports processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting of Government of Alberta tax revenues. An impeccable attention to detail will be required as over $7.5 billion in taxes and levies are processed by TRA annually.The duties of TRA Accounting Officer may include:

  • Performing reconciliations of TRA specific accounting data to GoA data in the 1GX (SAP) system;
  • Reconcile millions of dollars in taxpayer payments daily to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting;
  • Completion of journal entries within Oracle and 1GX;
  • Performing account adjustments as required to taxpayer accounts;
  • Investigation and resolution of payments in suspense or resolving credit balances on account;
  • Preparing quarterly and annual working papers that will be subject to audit by Auditor General;
  • Completion of variance analysis on taxpayer and financial statement accounts;
  • Completion of the monthly consolidated Government of Alberta GST return;
  • Determination of the correct refund or rebate to taxpayers. Reviewing disbursements from the assessment process to ensure accuracy and proper controls are adhered to;
  • Preparation of routine and ad-hoc reporting to be used by various internal stakeholders;
  • System user acceptance testing (UAT).

  • Familiarly with large accounting/financial applications (ex. SAP, Oracle);
  • Ability to manipulate data sets supported by technology;
  • Familiarity with accounting concepts (such as; general ledger, assets, revenue, expenses, or liabilities).
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of directly related education for one year of experience.Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) is required.The following would be considered an asset:
  • Knowledge of provincial tax legislation and policies;
  • Knowledge of federal corporate income tax legislation;
  • Knowledge of tax, interest and penalty calculations;
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
