Job Description

Your Opportunity:Community Assertive Services (CAS) is a client-centered, recovery-oriented program that supports community living, psychosocial rehabilitation and intervention for children, youth and their families who have serious mental illnesses, have severe symptoms and impairments and have not benefited from traditional outpatient programs. This program shifts the model of care from facility based to home based care. Reporting directly to the Care Manager of Community Assertive Services, Youth and Families Addiction and Mental Health, the Addictions Counsellor will respond to assigned sites for individual, family or group services. The Addictions Counsellor will provide substance use and concurrent mental health disorders assessment, treatment, case coordination, crisis intervention and consultation to children, youth experiencing psychological, emotional, social and/or behavioral difficulties that affect their well-being in the community or the well-being of their families. The program goal is to reduce Emergency Department presentations and length of stay in hospital. The Addictions Counsellor III will provide linkages to community A+MH services and collaborate with physicians, parent(s) or guardians and a broad range of community professionals and services. The Addictions Counsellor will also be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development activities, liaison with community partners and other related duties as required. Responsibilities will include: consultation, family teaching, groups, behavior management interventions, and effective involvement with community programs. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.Description:As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:Completion of a bachelors degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelors degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.Additional Required Qualifications:Social Work or Child and Youth Care Diploma, or relevant degree. CPR, NVCI training. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle. Must have a minimum of three years clinical child and adolescent addiction experience within the last five years. Must have: Knowledge of addictions Experience working with adolescents facing multiple issues. Experience in school and community programming. Experience in crisis management. Experience in family work. Knowledge of Experiential Learning. A basic understanding and knowledge working with concurrent disorders, aboriginal culture and multi-cultural backgrounds. Will support the Crisis and Stollery ED, when requiredPreferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Psychology (Preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (with Psychosocial Intervention Authorization). Masters of Social Work preferred. Previous experience working with trauma. Previous experience working with Child and Family Services and/or Multicultural groups, such as community, friendship, or settlement services.Quick Apply
