We are a mission-driven agency providing exceptional services throughout central Alberta for more than 50 years, with more than 1,800 staff and hundreds of volunteers delivering 130+ programs. We recognize the importance and the value of having access to reliable information.Job Summary:Reporting to the Manager of Business Solutions, the Application Analyst is responsible for the implementation, support, maintenance, integration, and extension of the agency’s financial, human resources, payroll, and case management applications. The Application Analyst requires strong troubleshooting, technical, analytical, data literacy, and functional skills. The Application Analyst acts as an internal specialist for operational areas and participates in a wide range of projects with other departments and services. The Application Analyst must be able to effectively balance operational maintenance tasks with project work.Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Application Support:
    • Investigates and resolves application issues
    • Manages application security and access
    • Documents issue resolutions in the service management tool
    • Escalates complex issues to tier 3 support vendors
    • Manages user communications and expectations related to issue resolution
    • Monitors performance and availability of enterprise applications
    • Provides guidance and training to end users
    • Develops queries and reports in support of troubleshooting
    • Maintains and monitors integrations with enterprise application
    • Maintains enterprise databases and data
  • Enterprise Software Configuration and Administration:
    • Applies security patches and application updates
    • Researches, documents, tests and implements software configuration for new or updated functionality
    • Analyses new functionality and provides advice on implementation
    • Develops configuration documentation and user manuals for new and existing functionality
    • Facilitates requirements gathering sessions with end users and leadership groups
  • Programming/software development:
    • Plans, designs and develops applications, workflows, and integrations using a variety of development tools
    • Manages end-to-end software development lifecycle
    • Follows changes in management best practices
    • Creates and maintains technical and functional documentation for custom applications and integrations
    • Participates in code reviews for peers
  • Business Intelligence and reporting:
    • Develops ad-hoc reports and queries
    • Assists with the creation of regular business intelligence reports
    • Designs, documents and develops extract, transform, load (ETL) scripts
Essential requirements:
  • A self-directed, detail-oriented, optimistic professional with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, highly organized with solid problem-solving skills
  • A solid understanding of Information Technology, Microsoft SQL, and CRM applications, as well as some knowledge of Human Resources, Accounting, and Payroll processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to present complex issues and concepts in a simplified manner
  • Translate IT data into simple, key messages and recommendations
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP will be considered an asset
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
Formal Education and Experience:
  • Diploma/Degree in Information Technology or other related fields from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • ITIL Foundations certification desired
  • Certified Business Analysis certification desired
  • Three years of related experience supporting enterprise applications with a preference for experience supporting agency-owned applications
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Service Management:
  • Extensive experience with troubleshooting and resolving applications and database problems
  • Foundational knowledge of information technology service management (ITSM)
  • Experience with change management best practices
Technical and Functional Skills:
  • Extensive experience in supporting, configuring, tuning, and administrating enterprise applications:
    • Dynamics GP
    • Kronos Workforce Central
    • ShareVision
    • Moodle
    • Intermediate experience with Microsoft SQL Server database administration
    • Familiarity with SharePoint administration and site development
    • Familiarity in supporting applications in a Microsoft Windows Server environment
Business/Functional Analysis:
  • Experience eliciting and documenting business requirements for report development, configuration changes, and new functionality
  • Experience documenting technical requirements and configuration manuals
  • Experience conducting system testing and facilitating end-user acceptance testing
  • Experience developing training materials and resources
Business Intelligence:
  • Intermediate Experience developing reports using Microsoft SQL, SQL Reporting Services, and PowerBI
  • Experience developing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) scripts
  • Experience designing Data visualizations
Application Development skills (Desired):
  • Intermediate experience developing and troubleshooting PowerApps and PowerAutomate low code applications
  • Experience with developing in a SharePoint environment
  • Familiarity developing in Visual Studio environment
Other requirements:
  • Satisfactory Security checks including Police Information Check (CPIC)
  • Transportation to attend meetings and presentations in different offices and program
