APPLIED RESEARCH BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICERRESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INNOVATIONNorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for two individuals dedicated to making a difference to join our Research and Academic Innovation team as Applied Research Business Development Officers. The successful candidates will thrive in showcasing our values of starting small and thinking big as they focus on growing the amount of research occurring at NorQuest College and with the community and industry partners we engage.We’re seeking candidates with initiative and natural relationship building skills to identify and meet with prospective clients to determine the scope and scale of research projects in various industries and business sectors. While ensuring quality, you will also explore opportunities to sustain existing corporate relationships by providing consultative and new research services, developing on projects or by referring them to other areas of the college so their needs can be met. Your keen eye for detail and financial acumen will be put to good use as you prepare research proposals, budgets, and contracts for the college.HOW YOULL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Regularly meet with employers, community organizations, business and industry, and members of government to expose them to NorQuest’s research services and supports.
  • Respond to requests for research consultations and services that are often ambiguous in nature.
  • Generate industry-funded applied research contracts.
  • Work with partners to develop research projects and submit research proposals for funding.
  • Perform quality assurance with customers prior to, during, and after research events, activities, or projects.
  • Effectively use NorQuest’s customer relationship management software to plan, track and close training activities with corporate customers.
  • Work with the Manager of Applied Research, Vice Dean of Research, Dean of Research & Academic Innovation, and other leadership at the college to identify new and prospective research clients, as well as propose new research opportunities.
  • Synthesize information received from prospective clients, contributors, and existing published research literature and create solution-based research funding proposals.
  • Work with NorQuest’s researchers and leaders to understand research interest in order to develop proposals that provide clear explanations of research activities and services to clients.
  • Work with NorQuest researchers and leadership to develop research opportunities for NorQuest students.
  • Prepare budgets for intermediate and complex research projects valued up to $10,000,000.
  • Prepare all documents for input into the Research Office’s and funding organizations’ electronic and hard copy records management systems.
  • Record progress with both prospective clients, and those clients with whom the department is delivering services using the college’s relationship management system.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Research Office processes that provide value to NorQuest and its partners.
  • Perform “Just Do It” tasks as required to activities that require simple improvements.
  • Attend events or meetings to help grow knowledge of how one can affect NorQuest’s impact on our community.
  • One of the two positions will be dedicated to developing student-led projects that meet the needs of business, industry, and community organizations.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Master’s Degree in a field related to NorQuest College’s programming areas. PhD is preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant research experience.
  • Demonstrated history of securing funding for research or contract training.
  • Strong understanding of proposal development practices that increase funding viability. This includes familiarity with common funding sources including ESDC, the Tri-Agency, the GOA, and Procurement sites.
  • Experience developing proposals with external partners.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Experience using relationship management systems.
  • Experience leading health-related research projects.
  • Experience working community-based research approaches.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered a significant asset.

SALARY: $84,749 - $105,965 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience, with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
