Job Description

The Assistant Manager, Patient Service Centres, Urban/Rural provides day-to-day supervision, oversight, and direction for the Patient Service Centres in Urban/Rural areas. They must excel in effective communication and continuously strive for excellence in the delivery of Medical Laboratory services to the community. The position works collabortively with the other Assistant Managers in the department to play an essential role in providing laboratory services to all Albertans with a focus on quality, patient care and process improvement.Major Functions and Responsibilities

  • Customer service responsibilities including but not limited to: developing and maintaining cooperative and positive working relationships with all key stakeholders, providing the highest possible service to patients, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Ensure quality control standards are consistently and accurately performed and corrective action for any deficiencies is completed as per established protocols.
  • Troubleshooting problems and problem solving to investigate incident occurrences, staffing, and workflow issues, QC failures, instrument and equipment malfunctions and safety practices.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and in top working order.
  • Ensure safety policies and practices are followed as per established protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to employees.
  • Orientation and development of employees.
  • Coordination of facilities services, repair and maintenance as required.
  • Ensure that service contractual obligations are met as per established standards.
  • Ensure appropriate, effective, and timely communications with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervisory responsibilities including, but not limited to: recruitment, interviewing and selection of employees, coaching, mentoring and training employees, preparation and administration of performance appraisals, ensuring proper staffing levels are maintained, application and enforcement of established operating procedures and policies, conducting employee meetings, encouraging and motivating employees, establishing and maintaining a positive and respectful work environment, manage and verify time and attendance, maintain discipline and order in conjunction with the Department Manager, and teambuilding.
  • Provide management to the Department in the absence of the Manager as assigned.
  • Occurrence management including investigation and sign off of incidents in the Quality Management system.

Required Experience
  • 3-5 years of laboratory experience.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Compliance with all laws specific to laboratory operations including Health Information Act, Privacy Legislation, and Transport Canada regulations.
  • Working knowledge of CPSA and CAP accreditation standards and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of CLSI, and CSTM guidelines and standards.
  • Familiarity with equipment and instrumentation typically found in Patient Service Centres.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Post secondary diploma or degree in a related field preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory drivers abstract
Other Information
  • Please note this position is open to current DynaLIFE and Alberta Precision Laboratories employees only.
  • Location: Please note that this position will be located in Edmonton (Windermere Area), or designated PSC in Calgary/Southern Alberta (site to be determined).
  • Regular travel is required to remote locations across the province.
  • Applicant(s) hired into this position will be required to provide a 5 year Driver’s Abstract as a condition of employment.
  • As workload demands and operational requirements shift, the location, dates and/or hours of work may be changed.
