That’s how we become the best full-service bank for business owners in Canada.The opportunityThe AVP Personal Credit , Credit Risk Management (CRM) focuses on reviewing and adjudicating personal credit applications in the context of Bank Lending Standards, providing support to branches in the structure of credit facilities, providing recommendations and support to senior management, and monitoring and assessing the quality of the personal loan portfolio.Key Deliverables:

  • Ensuring the Bank’s personal portfolio is compliant with OSFI’s B20 Underwriting Principles
  • Certify that exceptions to the Bank’s Lending Standards are fully identified, mitigated, and reported as necessary
  • Safeguard data accuracy in the credit applications and scorecards
  • Guarantee that Lending Standards are current and fully compliant with external regulatory requirements and the Bank’s Risk Appetite. Optimizing through identifying and recommending revisions as required.
  • Deliver expert guidance to the branches
  • Providing strong Second Line of Defence functions to assist in maintaining portfolio quality
AccountabilitiesCredit Risk & Portfolio Management
  • Adjudicate personal credit applications from the branches and CWB Optimum Mortgage, and provide recommendations to senior management when appropriate
  • Field calls from lenders to assist in deal structures and policy clarifications
  • Managing assigned high risk files, including foreclosure action, and sending files to collection as appropriate, ensuring that prompt remedial action is instituted to minimize loan losses
  • Ensuring that the underwriting on High Ratio (CMHC/SAGEN) Insured mortgages are in accordance with the respective insurer policies
Policy, Reporting, & Special Projects
  • Support the administration of personal credit policies, making recommendations for change and/or establishing new policies as needed
  • Assisting in compiling and consolidating impaired loan reports and watch list reports on a quarterly basis
  • Participate in the review of the adequacy of specific loan allowances
  • Collaborate & help branches with pre-submission reviews and problem loans
  • Contribute to the process of assignment and management of accounts assigned to 3rd party collection agencies
  • Assist in preparing personal credit summaries, reports, and other information as required by OSFI, CMHC, SAGEN and other external regulators and auditors
  • Maintain and review the list of approved appraisers and solicitors
  • Review all external reporting to ensure accuracy and completion in accordance with required guidelines
  • Select files for 2nd Line of Defence review and complete reviews on both Banking Centre and CWB Optimum Mortgage files

Successful incumbentA key role in our Credit Risk team in a growing organization looking to disrupt the financial industry in Canada. This role requires an accomplished adjudicator and a seasoned risk professional with a strong sense of ownership, expert risk knowledge, and financial & cashflow analysis skills. Structuring complex lending arrangements and preparing succinct lending summary reports are second nature to you. This position demands enhanced relationship building and influence skills with clients, internal colleagues, and senior leadership achieved with honed interpersonal, negotiation & communication skills. Accustomed to high-demand environments with critical response requirements, you thrive and excel under pressure to resolve complex situations, delivering effective solutions. Practiced risk analytical abilities, sound judgement, and proven decision-making abilities are grounded in common sense and balanced execution.   • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance or Accounting disciplines
Demonstrated experience
  • Ten plus years banking experience with strong hands-on experience in lending, underwriting and credit analysis. Commercial lending experience would be considered an asset
  • Robust, fulsome knowledge of Personal Lending Standards and OSFIs B-20 Principles
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills; needs to be able to turn findings into actionable recommendations and speak the business language
  • Exposure to business lending is an asset
