Subsidiary: Standard General Inc.Standard General Inc.250 Carleton DriveSt. Albert, AB T8N 6W2SummaryThe Backhoe Operator is primarily responsible for safely and efficiently operating and maintaining various sizes of backhoes to maintain an acceptable level of workmanship and productivity at all worksites. The Backhoe Operator will also operate excavators, loaders, skid steers and packers where competent and trained. The Backhoe Operator is also responsible for promoting and participating in the Goal Zero initiative.Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience in the roadbuilding industry is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years operating a construction-grade backhoe.
  • Finishing work in an loader and/or skid steer is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating loaders, skid steers, packers and excavators in road construction.
  • Must hold a class 5 license.
  • Must be able to operate mobile heavy equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Must have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Able to perform physical/manual labour for extended periods of time.
  • Able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • Able and willing to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to meet and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies, including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.
  • Must be willing to join and/or maintain active membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 955, if not already a member.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, including overtime, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Travel between local job sites, as required.
  • Work outdoors, which could include inclement weather; fluctuations in temperatures and humidity; and varying exposures to noise and dust.
  • Extended periods of sitting may be required.
  • Must be physically fit, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as directed by company policy and OH&S regulations.
