Job Description

The Business & Financial Planning Analyst is responsible for developing, interpreting, and implementing complex financial models and accounting concepts or techniques for financial planning and control. This includes documenting and assessing the operating effectiveness of disclosure controls and procedures and internal controls over financial reporting. The Business & Financial Planning Analyst is responsible for all budgeting and forecasting for Operating Expenses and Capital Expenditures as well as the administration of the capital expenditure plan. Additional responsibilities will include conducting studies to analyze complex financial actions and prepare recommendations for policy, procedure, control or action, analysis of financial information to determine present and future financial performance, identification of trends and recommendations for accounting improvements, provide interpretation of financial policies, governmental legislation, accounting theory or customer financial regulations, evaluate complex profit plans, operating records and financial statements, conduct research and prepare economic reports on subjects such as rate of return, depreciation, working capital requirements, investment performance and impact of governmental requirements.Major Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ownership of annual budget and planning process for company-wide operating expenses including development / assessment of budgeting tools, providing training and support to the department heads responsible for budget submissions, as well as coordinating submissions from all departments including overseeing the consolidation of the financial content of the annual presentation package to the board.
  • Provide support to the department leads in relation to financial reporting and budgeting. Collaborate with these individuals on development and implementation of performance metrics and tools.
  • Development and oversight of corporate capital expenditure process.
  • Oversight for corporate governance relating to validation and maintenance of supplier qualification and compliance as well as other Corporate Governance matters as required.
  • Conduct internal audits of payroll and materials management.
  • Lead business reporting and analytics to ensure KPIs for operational objectives are met.
  • Co-develop DynaLIFE business intelligence strategy, along with the manager of IT Applications
  • Implementation and development of new KPIs through creation of databases and technology.
  • Participate in all month end processes.
  • Preparation of schedules for external auditors.
  • Prepare and enhances monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages for internal and external purposes.
  • Support of ERP implementation.
  • Review and approve EFTs, Wires, and Transfers.
  • Review and approve journal entries, and cheque batches.
  • Corporate filings such as CPP, EI, and Income tax remittances.
  • Alternate for Manger of Finance in all month end duties.
  • Training and mentoring of Finance group staff in reporting and analytics processes.
Required Skills

  • Strong computer skills.
Required Experience
  • 5 years of experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications (Word, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Microsoft GP and Management reporter experience is an asset.
  • Experience with development in tools such as Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Programming experience in SQL and VBA.
  • Experience with data science in R or Python an asset.
  • Business intelligence and operations analysis experience an asset.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed or are working towards their CPA designation or MBA.
