The Data unit is expected to support the delivery of various easy to consume data products and services (e.g. analytical models, data dashboards, visualizations, etc.). This will enable data access to GoA stakeholders in support of critical analytical, policy, and legislative functions, processes, and activities.The successful candidate is expected to have a broad skill set and be capable of performing diverse functions and activities, including but not limited to:- Data analysis, analytics, visualization.- Requirements gathering, documentation, analysis.- Support data modeling, transformation, data pipeline.- Interact with clients/partners (GOA-internal and/or external) to provide data products/services and promote the vision of the Data Strategy.DESCRIPTION OF SERVICESCandidate is responsible for delivering business intelligence capabilities to support internal and external ministry stakeholders’ information needs.

  • Contribute as part of a team, responsible for delivering business intelligence capabilities to support internal and external ministry stakeholders’ information needs.
  • Deliver work products based on various sets of data, including those relevant to Ministry business areas.
  • Work with a selection of technology products that must scale to the ever-changing technology and increasing appetite for information from internal and external ministry stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a team made up of in-house staff and contract resources.
  • Analyze data and prepare information results.
  • Gather and document client requirements.
  • Design and construct information products.
  • Capture business and technical metadata for information products.
  • Gather requirements for control processes, including schedule management, status-reporting, issues, risk, and change management at the program level.
  • Produce deliverables within specified quality standards and timeline.
  • Define and perform quality assurance on BI deliverables.
  • Respond to ad-hoc information inquiries.
  • Perform data analysis, data quality audits/reviews, statistical analysis and data mining.
  • Escalate issues and risks, as appropriate.
  • Work within a multi-vendor/staff environment.
MANDATORY SKILLS- The proposed resource must meet or exceed one of the following: (4+ years)
  • University graduation in computer science or a related discipline and 4-yr relevant experience;
OR
  • 2-yr diploma in computer science or a related discipline and 6-yr relevant experience;
OR
  • 1-yr certificate in computer science or a related discipline and 7-yr relevant experience;
OR
  • a currently active professional certification or accreditation and 7-yr relevant experience
- Experience leading or facilitating meetings (and workshops) with clients or stakeholders (5+ years)- Experience identifying, gathering, analyzing, and documenting business (or BI) requirements from clients or stakeholders (5+ years)- Experience creating data visualizations, dashboards, and other information products for clients using BI/analytics software, including any or all: SAS Visual Analytics, SAS Visual Investigator, MS Power BI, Tableau, Looker, R, Python (4+ years)- Experience with BI and advanced data analytics in an organization of equivalent size and complexity as the Government of Alberta (3+ years)- Candidate must be willing and able to work full-time, in-person in client office(s) in Edmonton, Alberta and/or work remotely, at the clients discretion.
