You will have access to a safe and clean work environment, state of the art tools and work with a diverse group of people while completing preventative maintenance, general carpentry and renovations in the Citys buildings. In order to be successful in this role you will: strive to meet customers expectations, keep within estimated costs of projects, demonstrate a high quality of workmanship, have the ability to work in a public environment, abide by safety regulations, learn about the different materials used in our facilities and gain an understanding of our procurement process.

  • Repair, replace and perform preventative maintenance to structural and architectural building components
  • Adhere to occupational health, safety and environmental standards and procedures
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Able to understand, communicate, read and write English at a level needed to meet job-related task and safety requirements
  • Provide construction and renovation services and expertise
  • Maintain and repair locks and locking hardware
  • Move and install walls, replace ceilings and floors and repair roofs
  • Build and repair cupboards, cabinets, and a variety of custom millwork
  • Install and repair tile, linoleum, baseboards and other flooring materials
  • Hang doors; install door closers; replace broken or worn locks
  • Perform miscellaneous service work and renovations
  • Utilize technology to obtain work order information and record work
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications :
  • Certified Journeyman in the trade of Carpenter
  • Active employment as a Journeyman Carpenter for the past 5 years and experience working in a maintenance environment are required
  • Knowledge of building maintenance procedures, construction methods, and regulatory codes in the carpentry trade is required
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade and ability to work safely with a variety of power tools is required
  • Knowledge and ability to read/interpret blueprints, layout, quantity take offs for ordering of the required materials is required
  • Commitment to continual learning, teamwork and providing excellent customer service
  • Training and experience in the locksmith trade would be an asset
  • Experience in cabinet making and interior partition systems would be an asset
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position and capable of passing a job-related physical abilities evaluation
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
