Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, and response and recovery activities within this diverse system.RoleOur Recovery Branch assists residential, private small business, and public entities recover from damage caused by a disaster or emergency event by providing financial assistance or reimbursement. As a Case Manager, you will serve as the main focal point of contact for Albertans experiencing complex situations following disaster or emergency response. You will be part of a multifaceted recovery team including Government departments, diverse business and industry interests, professional, volunteer, and community groups. The successful candidate will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of administration and disbursement of funds in accordance with applicable provincial and federal legislation, guidelines, and policies. The role of the Case Manager is central to our communication, administration, and effectiveness of the Disaster Recovery Program (DRP)Specific duties include:

  • Serving as the main point of contact for Albertans, Municipalities and Ministries seeking eligibility of programs and resources, for the DRP
  • Collecting and assessing information to ensure a responsive application process and in accordance to program protocols and program audit guidelines
  • Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to collect, interpret, analyze and report data and other information pertaining to an event.
  • Researching, drafting and editing correspondence, and preparing recommendations for management and payments to eligible applicants.
  • Reviewing and analyzing complex eligibility requirements to ensure applicant files meet audit processes
  • Contributing to the development and distribution of DRP statistics and providing input for the updating of the Disaster Assistance Guidelines and training materials.
  • Assisting DRP Centres, AEMA Field Officers, and the Provincial Operations Centre (POC) with coordination, administration, and travel throughout the province where required
  • The successful candidate will bring the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrated objectivity when involved with highly emotional or distressing situations.
As part of a collaborative team, you can expect a dynamic environment in place across multiple DRPs and Municipal Wildfire Assistance Programs (MWAP), which span GoA Projects, Municipalities, Residential, Small Business, and Agriculture files.QualificationsExperience and Education:University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience elated to grant administration, risk management, emergency management, planning and project management, commercial or residential insurance, leasing documents, property assessment, damage evaluation, residential construction, financial statements, incorporation, land titles and taxation required, or equivalent as described below.Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:
  • Experience in grant administration
  • Knowledge of the Emergency Management Act, Disaster Recovery Regulations, Disaster Assistance Guidelines, and Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements
  • knowledge of the GoA’s financial systems and audit processes
  • Familiarity with commercial insurance, leasing documents, financial statements, incorporation, land titles, and tax forms – Small Business Unit
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, municipal/provincial infrastructure, and property assessment –GoA Projects and Municipal / First Nations Units

Salary$2,556.10 to $3,335.81 bi-weekly.
