Additional offerings include university preparation, English as an Additional Language, professional and personal development courses and workshops, corporate training and the Conservatory of Music.OpportunityMacEwan University Sport and Wellness is seeking an individual to fill the role of Sport and Wellness Chief Camp Coordinator. The Chief Camp Coordinator will be the on-site leader of camps and will manage registrations, participants’ drop off and pick up, camp activities and staff breaks. Coordinator will also assist the Programmer, and Supervisors with other camp related tasks as assigned; they will help evaluate camp coordinators, counselors, youth leaders, and the program itself, including the completion of a comprehensive End-of-Summer Report.Supplementary Learning / Benefits:The Chief Camp Coordinator will obtain valuable experience, competitive wages and work references (upon request).Position RequirementsMust be able to articulate and model professional childcare practices;Responsible for assisting peers in attending to children’s needs, protecting the health and safety of children and participating in play;Must be able to relate comfortably to children of all ages, demonstrate a high degree of physical and mental stamina;Must demonstrate flexibility, dependability, initiative, and a positive and enthusiastic attitude;Must attend training and lead sessions as scheduled;Chief Camp Coordinator may also be required to stay in the water at our swimming facility for extended periods; carry and lift supplies; and remain attentive in noisy, disruptive, hot and cold conditions both indoors and outdoors;Assist Programmer and Supervisors with mentorship and competency development of Camp Coordinators and Counselors;Work with Programmer and Supervisors to develop camp schedules, plan daily activities and complete facility usage requests.SkillsEnergetic and enthusiastic – ready to have fun.Must be able to work effectively with a team as well as independently.Strong organization and communication (oral and written) skills.Interpersonal and time-management skills.Team Leadership and delegation.Organized, detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.Time CommitmentSchedule and hours of work are dependent on the total number of registrants in each camp. Expected hours of work are, 7 to 8 hours per day, scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. over late June, July and August as needed.This is a temporary student position for each program season. Employment may be renewed for future terms on PD day camps or other programs depending on enrollment numbers in programs and employee performance evaluations.QualificationsRequired:Current Swim Instructor certification (Lifesaving Society preferred, but not required) or other coaching/instructor certification;Previous experience working with children and youth and/or experience with camp delivery;Experience working with youth and leading others;High degree of comfort and confidence in the water;Candidates will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost;18 years of age or older (will be required to supervise staff under 18).Assets:Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor or other Aquatics certifications;Standard First Aid certification;NCCP coaching or other coaching/instructional certification;Coaching or instructional experience;Familiarity with Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness (as a facility patron, program participant, volunteer, or staff) considered an asset.How to ApplyOnly applications received electronically will be considered.
